Green alternatives to chemicals - Advice needed!

Hi

I am 28 weeks pregnant and needing to clean/disinfect our "lived in" house and e-bay baby goods. Must be the nesting instinct you read about!

I have had to ditch all my lovely toiletries due to allergies (even Bio-oil gave me a rash!!) and have decided to try the eco route for cleaning too.

I would be really grateful for product reviews/ advice/ideas from those already using "green" stuff!

Also what green products can mums recommend for baby when she arrives?

Yes I am thinking of using reusable nappies but accept ignorance is bliss and this may be a pipe dream

We also try and use eco products wherever possible. Lemon juice, vinegar and bicarb of soda all work as normal cleaning products so I presume you could use these on your baby stuff too. Tea tree oil could be used as a disinfectant.
We washed our baby stuff down with very hot water and a squirt of Ecover washing up liquid and it seemed to do the trick.

Regarding green baby products, have a look for Weleda. Their stuff is a little bit more expensive but I think it's worth it. I regularly use their body oils for moisturising and they are fab. They last for ages too. Have already stocked up on baby stuff

I use Method products throughout the house - everything's very natural and recyclable and smells lovely and fresh. Its a bit more expensive than Ecover but I prefer it - and it all comes in ergonomic packaging. You can buy in Sainsburys and Waitrose or online.

I like Burt's Bees stuff - no parabens, no nasties and allegedly all ethical. 'Course it's more than the Tesco value range...

Thanks for the advice - I am looking into the welda and bees products for baby.

I have also looked up method products and they appear really nice.

I have been give a recipe for a DIY cleaning agent which I intend to try first!

Anthea Turner's ultimate grimebuster:

Mix together
2 tbsp white vinegar
2 tsp laundry borax
2 teacups water
3 drops lavender oil
3 drops tea tree oil
Pour into a plant spray bottle and away you go!

I think I will use lemon and orange oil as I prefer the smell, though may succumb to tea tree nearer the summer!

Wow I never thought I would be using Anthea Turner's anything for anything!!
