I know of a woman who had 4 and was fine. I only heard about it through the local NCT but I do remember seeing her wandering about with all the dc's so nothing awful happened but I don't know any more than that.

I only had 2 BTW.

What does your consultant say?

jen6jen · 20/02/2010 20:24

they dnt seem 2 concerned but i been advised 2 get sterilised straight after the birth

Thought I would bump this as I am also interested in anyone's experience of more than 3 c sections.

I am due my fourth c section in June.

Nymphadora · 21/02/2010 15:17

Just wathcing

Lulumama · 21/02/2010 15:19

there can be more complications in terms of scar tissue/adhesions etc. it can also create more complications for future pregnancies

i would not particularly go for sterlisation as part of teh c.s as your tubes can be a bit swollen adn there is a slight icnrease of failure of the procedure

humptynumpty · 21/02/2010 15:27

jen6jen I spoke to my consultant about a 4th section, I am having my 3rd soon. Like lulu said, he said there is a higher risk of complications and scar tissue after 3 sections, but did not say he did not recommend it etc... So guess it's not a huge deal, just be aware, each time they open you up, it might be less straightforward than the first time!!

yama · 21/02/2010 16:58

My Mum had 4 sections - three in the 1970's and one in the 1980's. As far as I'm aware there have been no complications.

Of course back then the scar was huge so she had an op in the 1990's to flatten her stomach - for cosmetic reasons.

xxkt1xx · 21/02/2010 17:01

im due my 4th c section (due in may but prone to early delivery) and am also worried....i was told by the doctor that more risk with each one but she didnt seem too concerned so lets hope all goes well with us x
ill probably deliver within a month so i will keep you informed as truthfully as i can!
had a positive fibronectine test (ffn) at 24+5 and have made it to 27+1 weeks so far with no delivery yet so could be anytime in the next month. keep well all, im watching the thread to see how u are all getting on...lets hope someone is due their 4th before me to put My mind at rest lol xx

horseymum · 22/02/2010 21:19

my friend has had 4 and is fine! A student midwife told her it was not recommeded so she just said 'well it's coming out one way or another!' Lots of things in life are risky, once baby is conceived there is not much other choice. I'm sure they will take care.

Prosecco · 22/02/2010 21:28

How did you feel after your last? I have had three and at the end of my 3rd pregnancy I was in a lot of pain, part of which they thought may have been due to adhesions. I also know of someone who had 4 though and was fine.

Good luck.

colie · 22/02/2010 21:37

I don't remember being in anymore pain during pregnancy (I had terrible spd but don't think connected to c sections)

i definately thought it took me longer to recover initially after surgery. First two I was up quite quickly after the operation. After the third c section I really didn't want to ever have to get out of that bed .

Know you weren't actually asking me. Sorry OP if it appears I have hijacked your thread.

jen6jen · 24/02/2010 20:58

My mum had 4, and we're all fine! (and so's she!) She had her 'tubes tied' during the 4th proceedure - much to her disgust, as she wanted 6 of us...

jen6jen · 26/02/2010 09:40

thank u unbuffy tht puts my mind at rest a bit...its nice 2 hear the stories when everythin turns out ok...thank u again. xx

when i was in having my second c-section there was a woman in my ward having her 6th c-section , she seemed fine but the nurses seemed a bit miffed with her as she had been advised to stop after her 4th but kept going .

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/02/2010 10:11

I have a friend who has had 4. Her 4th baby was unplanned. No complications with the 4th birth afaik. But she has now been sterilised.

posieparker · 26/02/2010 10:15

I have!!! 2 emergency and 2 planned, my friend has had the same too!

Easiest by far as I had a senior registrar and it took 57seconds, knife to skin and baby out!!

Sterilisation is unreliable as your body is so engorged it can repair after pregnancy, best to wait.

jen6jen · 27/02/2010 20:09

thanks ladies im startin 2 feel a bit better now....6!!! cnt imagine tht. no 4 wasnt planned but hes def my last. xxx

I had a bit of soreness around my scar after my second section and went to a local walk-in clinic to get it checked out. The nurse who saw me had had five sections in eight years (this was in the 80s). I was in total awe of her.

USMom6x · 08/03/2010 06:02

I have had 1 nature delivery and 5 c sections with no major complications. However, my fifth surgery lasted a bit longer due to the amount of scar tissue that the doctor had to sift through to get to the uterus. My doctor has strongly advised against any future pregnancies and says that I would have a 2-3% chance of death. The odds seems quite low to me...

USMom6x · 08/03/2010 06:04

Sorry, I meant natural delivery not nature. Also, the odds stated are in the event that I become pregnant again (after 5 c-sections) and facing a 6th c-section. hmm

CarmenSanDiego · 08/03/2010 06:20

USMom6x, there is some interesting research here

While the odds of placental problems or hysterectomy are quite significant, I'd be very interested in where he plucked the 2-3% chance of 'death' from. That sounds like scaremongering.
