my due date was thurs gone and still waiting i'd appreciate a bit of advice. in the last two days ive developed really severe lower back pain and cant put any pressure on my right leg when im walking. infact i can hardly walk at all. do you think i should ring the hospital or will they just tell me to stay in bed and rest? im worried that if i go into labour now i wont be able to get to the hospital even! what would you all do?

My due date is today

Can you speak to any of the physios at the hopsital? They could suggest some excersises or massage which could help.

I'm due today as well mrscurly

frodob - I have this too - although it is intermittent - told the MW about it yesterday and she shrugged and said it was just because the baby's head was moving down. Is your pain constant? If so, I would rest as much as possible and wait it out if you can. I have had this with previous pregnancies too and have never had any problems during the actual labour so hopefully it will be the same for oyu.

Lots of sympathy though - it's awful, isn't it? And fingers crossed labour isn't far away

Do you know what position your baby is in? If your baby is posterior, his/her head may be pressing down on your sacrum (very painful!)

If not, it may be, as your mw said, just be a result of your baby moving down and getting ready for birth.

Maybe trying sitting on a birthing ball, pelvis tilted forward, knees lower than hips (this way your baby will tilt forward and the pressure will be taken off your back). Could do some gently rocking too which will help, and maybe your partner can give you a nice back rub?

I had really bad back and hip pain with DD1. Mine was simply due to my ligaments softening (a bit too much)as they do in pregnancy.
