Anyone know of a book which explains the "facts of life" to a child

Just wondered if any of you have found a good book that explains where babies come from.

I am pregnant and my dd (5) keeps asking. I'd also like to pass it onto my SIL who is expecting. Her dd is 7 and not as easily fobbed off as my dd

"Mummy laid an egg" by Babette Cole is a great book. Ideal for a child of your dd's age.

the body book. has all info about body so is good for all types of subjects.

Another vote for "Mummy laid an egg". My DH and BIL found it shocking but DS had no trouble with it. He's 5.

Oh yes - Mummy Laid an Egg. My dd is 4, and we have used this book along with talking to her ourselves.

Another vote for the body book. I think its by claire rayner.

This was the book bought for me when my brother was on the way (I was 4). Its a very good book, not patronising, very matter of fact. The only problem is that I can't remember how much is "facts of life" stuff-its a general "how bodies work" book. But certainly worth having anyway.

Another good book might be that one with pictures of the foetus. I remember looking at that before my brother was born (it was quite new then, I think)-something like "a child is born".

merglemergle -- I had that when younger too, I asked my mum where children came from when I was really little and she brought that book for me. Agree that the matter of fact way it explained things was really good. the Fact of life bit is informative and also covers puberty. It has a section about dying aswell which was helpful.

It's a nice reference book which I still like now, my mum still has it and my ds1 reads it now.

Just bought Mummy laid an egg and have thrown it in the bin!
Also bought Kate Petty, Charlotte Middleton (Illustrator) "Made with Love:
How Babies Are Made" and thought it was great for my 5yr old.

Actually it's called Let's talk about sex and it's quite detailed. A bit too much detail for a five year old. It's a great one for kids of about 10 ish though.

SH i sent one to bonkerz that was more for that age group was by usborne and was how babies are made. IT does explain about sperm etc so maybe ask Bonkerz if she would recommend it for that age group as her ds is 5.
