Too much movement?

Is it possible for an unborn baby to move too much? I'm 35w into my pregnancy and for the last three evenings have noticed a big increase in kicking movements - like several episodes of 20-30 kicks in quick succession, as well as all the usual shuffling and wriggling that goes on.

Don't feel like calling the midwives just yet as I was in because of reduced movement a few weeks back and I'm afaid they'll think I'm an idiot.

Yes it is.

Any time you are worried you should ring the midwife.

If the worst was to happen would you care about being thought of as an idiot? This is your baby and will be with you forever, in a few months you won't even remember the midwife's name.

Just call.

I had this at about 29 weeks, it really freaked me out - it was very extreme and didn't let up at all throughout the day and night. After about three days I was actually really worried, thinking that maybe my baby was trying to show some kind of distress. I spoke to my midwife and she told me that it was normal to have 'active periods'...
Then baby calmed down and was SUPER quiet for a week - it was strange, and I still feel uneasy about it. I'm sure it's nothing more than your baby having a great kick about, trying some new positions for birth and enjoying itself, however it does no harm at all to express your concern to the midwife and hopefully she will put your mind at ease. Good Luck!

Mine moved loads so I asked this question and was told that sometimes in later pregnancy it can signify an "uneasy lie" - i.e. the baby is uncomfortable (?) so you can get this checked out.

If this has changed get it checked out, better to be on the safe side.Or just if you are worried ask the MW.

FWIW my dd2 moved what felt like continuously for 5 months and is still like that now at 8!

Thanks very much all - I will be less of a wimp and call and ask!
