Hi,

I've just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant, and we have our holiday booked to go to Rhodes in July, I've just worked out I'll be 27 weeks on the way and 29 wks on return.

eeeeeeeekkkk!!!!

I'm obviously delighted about the pregnancy but worried about flying and coping with the heat. This is DC3 but I can't remember how big I'd expect to be by then (long time since last pg).

Any advice? Or positive stories?

Thanks x

Hi,

I flew to Thailand at 31 weeks and back at 33 weeks. It was fine.

The heat didn't bother me at all - I spent my time lying flat out in the shade. I was suffering badly from rib flare, so it was bliss.

You might need a fitness to fly certificate from your doctor.

just went away at 28/9 weeks, it was lovely and flying was fine... the belt just fit!!wouldn't have left it much later though. also i believe that a new e.u directive means you cannot be charged extra premium on travel insurance just for being pregnant, although you can if you have complications. congrats and have a lovely hol

i flew back to the uk for christmas at 29weeks, a 2hr 30min flight. was fine, got asked for a note coming out, but not on the way back. seatbelt just fitted and plane was quite empty so spread myself out over two seats. worst bit was when due to bad weather we had to land at birmingham not gatwick and i burst into tears, slightly hormonal! with the heat just take it easy, lots of liquid and shade and have a great time

dont sit out in the sun too much as it can cause cloasma hyperpigmentation on the face due to the sun plus increased hormones. take a high sun factor for your face and put your feet up

alypaly · 16/02/2010 23:35

where are you going in Rhodes....it will be nice and hot in july

midnightexpress · 16/02/2010 23:37

One of my colleagues flew with me to Korea and back when she was 5 or 6 months pg and was fine. She was advised to make sure she got up and walked around a bit during the flight.

And my SIL flew up to see us last week at 30 weeks and was fine and dandy.

hi im cabin crew and have seen quite a few heavily pregnant women onboard (im sure a few of them lied about bein under 28weeks mind you :S but anyway....)

make sure your airline will take you as the majority do accept up to 28weeks with a doctors note, and tell the crew once your onboard so they can keep an extra eye on you ( and theyl sneak you the short supply of cushions lol) and they should keep you supplied with water etc.

just look forward to your holiday i wouldnt be worried about it

oh, and we are trained for childbirth and dealing with pregnancy :D

traytable might be a bit of a hassle to get down comfortably mind you, get the crew to give u an empty row! xxx

Thanks for all your replies, especially ciaobella, that's very reassuring.
We're travelling with Thomas Cook, who take you up to 28 weeks so I'm assuming I'll need a doctors note for the return journey.
Alypaly I've been to Rhodes before, we're staying in Pefkos which is lovely!
We knew if we conceived this month it would be an October baby but I thought it was being a bit presumptuous to count how many weeks I'd be if it was our month. Now I'm wishing we had!!

used to go to pefkos all the time. Dont you find it has changed alot over the last few years though.

Sarahlou8 · 18/02/2010 16:27

I don't know really. We went in Aug 08 (first time to Rhodes)and are due to go for the second time in July, same hotel etc as I wanted to know exactly where we were should I have been pg (could have been 6 months, 5 mths 4, whatever! )
We have a car this year so we can explore. That was the plan anyway. Now it looks more likely I will be in the horizontal position by the pool for 2 weeks!

go to tsambiki beach which is on the way back to rhodes town..it is a fantastic beach and really safe. There is a fantastic restaurant that overlooks tsambiki beach called the restaurant Panorama. Their food is out of this world. It is on a bend just before you get to the turning for Tsambiki beach. It is the best greek food i have ever had and ive been ggoing to greece for 30 years. Try it if you get a car.

I flew at 33 weeks with last pregnancy. Got on the plane no problem (I wasn't huge and it was February so I was wearing a coat. But...I threw up all over myself. And hadn't been sick since 16 weeks. And, to prove it wasn't a fluke, I threw up again on the flight home as well. So just be prepared and grab a sickbag just in case (but maybe you'll have no problems!)

Rtuff · 19/02/2010 15:11

Hi

I've just come back from Mauritius (12hr flight) and am 34 weeks (flew out 32 weeks). Absolutely fine no problems, I wasn't even asked for my fit to fly certificate!

Have a fab holiday!

Sarahlou8 · 19/02/2010 15:45
