Hi everyone

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and worrying about everything! Had my first midwife appt today, and was hoping for reassurance, but didn't really feel she listened to me. So just wondering if anyone has experienced any of the following and can advise as to whether I should be seeking help or just stop stressing out?

  • no symptoms, except maybe a bit hungrier & thirstier than normal.
  • lost weight, despite eating like a horse
  • small bit of spotting (pink / brown, just when I go to the loo)
  • boobs hurt for first 6 weeks, then pretty much stopped

Any ideas? I know there's no definite answers, but others' experience would be useful! Thanks...

Hi!
Also 8 weeks - but not had a MW appointment yet. (Hmmm. Should I chase this I wonder?) This is my first so have NO experience at all, but from reading others' posts it seems that not having a MW listen to you or give you the attention you need sometimes happens
Am also worrying about everything (in between being in a state of stunned denial - not that I'll be able to maintain that for much longer I'm sure!). Like you, no symptoms as such, except bit hungrier, getting dehydrated more easily and a bit knackered occasionally. Like you a bit of pre-menstrual-like breast pain, which has not stopped. And now just have impressive cleavage . Not lost weight, but not put any on. Yup - also had slight spotting at weeks 4 and 5.
Don't know if this is any help - but basically you sound pretty much like me!

Sorry - should have read Like you a bit of pre-menstrual-like breast pain, which has NOW stopped.

Hi brownrabbit,

I'm also 8 weeks and saw our midwife for the first time last week. I was expecting a scan or to at least hear a heart beat but we don't get that until 12 weeks now. In actual fact it was just paper work!

Spotting is perfectly normal (although I haven't had any) and is most likely implantation bleeding. I don't think there's any cause for worry unless the spotting turns red and clots.

Sore boobs-I'm pretty sure that will continue, mine have been constantly sore. They will grow much bigger and more tender as they get ready for milk so you can look forward to that ;-)

Just be really happy you've had no symptoms of sickness yet-I've had to go and get medication it's that bad!!!!

Try not to worry too much-this is my first too and I just keep telling myself that everyone's experience is different.

x

If you are really concerned, you can pay about £50 for a viability scan, which will check to see if you have a yolk, sac and sometimes a heartbeat, and also that everything is where it should be. I did this and it really put my mind at ease until the 12 week scan.
I didn't really have massive symptoms either - my boobs did get sore and grow, but they were tiny to start with. It kind of came and went as well. Lots of poeple lose weight in the first 12 weeks, - probably becuase it uses so much energy.

Brownrabbit, hopefully others have reassured you that everything you're experiencing can be totally normal - however, having symptoms like spotting means you are entitled to be referred to your Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) for a scan to check that all is well. This will really set your mind at rest. In some areas you can self-refer, in others you need a referral from either a GP or A&E, but usually they see you very quickly. And once you've seen a heartbeat you'll feel much better.

brownrabbit · 16/02/2010 14:33

Thank you everyone - that is really reassuring. I actually spoke to the EPU this morning, and they put my mind at rest a bit. I'm still quite convinced that there's nothing in there... but I guess only a scan will convince me of that. But it's good to know that other people have had the same experiences. I kind of knew all those things were fairly common on their own, but having (or not having) them all together is freaking me out a bit!

And loopymumsy - I'm slightly ashamed to say that I have wasted lots of money on pg tests and done 4 or 5 now... (and haven't told my husband either!.

Just wish I could feel SOMETHING that would show me that something's going on!

Brownrabbit - I absolutely knew, had the stereotypical sickness, exhaustion etc etc etc...however my 2 best friends, no signs whatsoever except a positive pregnancy test. Exactly like you, before their scans they were convinced something was wrong.
I know it will feel like forever but please take care of yourself and try as much distraction as possible until your scan and 12 weeks.

brownrabbit · 17/02/2010 18:15

Think I'm finding it hard because it's taken me so long to conceive that I can't bear the thought of going through all that again... But as everyone's said, hoepfully everything's fine and there's nothing I can do about it anyway! Feeling more hopeful today, so will try to stay this way! Good luck to others at same stage too!

Brownrabbit, it's so tough because no matter how much reassurance you get, you'll be certain to fret. Counting down the days for you and hope to hear more news of a gloriously glowing pregnancy

rollerbaby · 20/02/2010 07:45

Is the 12 week scan dated from the day of your first period? I'm 2 weeks since ov and have a very long wait I think!!
