Hi, I'm nearly 37 weeks with my second now so remember from my first that sleep in the last trimester isn't great but I am so knackered and really need some advice. I have taken on the crazy task of moving as well to be closer to family (we dont get keys till tues) and run a business with dh and have 17 month old boy. Can anyone help me switch off my brain at night, everything seems to just go round and round, I'm worrying about everything

OMG you poor thing, moving at 37 weeks! (and the rest!)

OK

  • try to get physical exercise (not easy I know)
  • avoid eating too late
  • obviously minimise caffeine

at bedtime -

  • warm bath, and try sleep-inducing bubble baths (boots have lots)
  • read a trashy mag in the bath or anything completely escapist
  • small cup of warm milk
  • if at all possible, try sleeping alone eg do you have a spare room or sofa when DH could sleep sometimes? It makes a big difference.

My sympathies, I'm a bad sleeper at the best of times, but now I am 8 weeks pg with morning sickness and a cold and am not sleeping properly. I have taken to listening to my iPod before bed, I put it on timer for 20 mins and am usually asleep before it goes off. I listen to Harry Potter on audio book because I have listened to it a million times so it is not completely distracting.

I have also just ordered Paul McKenna I can make you sleep from Amazon and am hoping that will help.

I agree with MarineIguana - read something trashy before bed to empty your head, and warm baths and hot milk have worked for me when I've been in the no-sleep zone.

Good luck

Not sure if you can take it when PG (am going to ask the dr on Monday) but pre pg I used to drink Dr Stuart's Valerian tea which makes you sleepy.

different bed to hubby, relaxation CD, lots and lots of pillows for support

You can take homepathic sleep remedy - might help? I also find not drinking anything for a couple of hours before bed helps (as then don't need to wee) - also I love my full length cushion. I don't have any caffiene at all (ever) as this can make things worse.

Hi ya thanks all for the advice. I listened to relaxing music before went to bed last nite and that defo helped. Would be lovely to be in different bed from hubby but at the moment as moving we just have a mattress on the floor (which is still surprisingly comfy so dont think thats the problem really) and we are sharing with our son! but thanks all defo had a better night sleep last nite so hopefully it will continue, think i just need to learn that things are out of my hands and chill out

Poor you it is really horrible and you feel like a Zombie. The three things below work for me!

  1. Get a Dreamgenii
  2. Have a warm bath with Lavender
  3. Have a cup of Horlicks
