Placenta Previa (again)

Hi,

I posted about this a while back, so sorry if some of you are reading it again.

I have a low-lying placenta - grade 1 or 2 placenta previa, depending on the definitions - it finishes 2cms from the cervix, so is not covering it.

I have had no bleeding during my pregnancy and the placenta is in full working order, so no one is too worried about it. But I was asking the doctor about it yesterday and she said I might lose a lot of blood during surgery (I'm having a c-section next Friday). She then went on to explain all the things theyy do to stop the bleeding if it becomes awful.

The trouble is, I can never tell whether docs are just going through the worst case scenarios and not considering the impact they're having, or whether these are very real risks for me.

It is hard to find information about minor pp, as most of the stuff is about the very large risks of major pp.

Has anyone here had minor pp and a straightforward c-section?

Lots of variables - is this your first cs? Is the placenta anterior or posterior?
Are they happy do perform the cs under spinal rather than ga?

Hi - yes, it's my first cs, placenta is posterior and they will do the op under spinal.

I had a very low lying, (and malfunctioning) placenta (not quite previa as it had 'moved') which stopped a normal delivery. CS was fine with a spinal. HTH.

All the best for the CS.

Thanks, Chaotica.

Sappholit - good news all round then, it will be an easy 'entry' as it's your first CS, no scar tissue to contend with and increase chance of bleeding. The placenta is posterior so they do not have to dissect through it on the way into the uterus, again, much smaller chance of bleeding and finally is they are happy to do under spinal they aren't anticipating any heavy bleeding. In a nutshell the doc was probably just going through the generic risks of any CS (bleeding, infection, thrombosis blah blah)I'd wish you luck but you won't need it. Enjoy your baby x

Thank you! I ended up paying for some advice from an online obstetrician yesterday, who said pretty much the same thing. It's very reassuring.
