Anomoly scan at more than 23 weeks - does it matter?

My anomoly scan is 25th Feb, where I will be about 23 + 4 (cannot remember the days but it's that or more than that). I won't see the consultant until 3rd March either. I have a family history of spine being backwards, intestines being outside, top of the head missing etc. (I do not know the names of all these though, sorry) and I really want to be seen sooner rather than later.

Sorry to worry you, but it probably does. Maybe get on the phone to the hospital and push really hard to be brought forward to this week? Even if you have to sit and wait all day for a slot...

My scan is tomorrow at 22+5. I've been telling myself its ok, but my GP was completely when I told her this morning and very concerned that was much too late (emotionally/developmentally) if I had to deal with any issues. And that's despite no family or personal history of problems and 2 healthy dcs.

So yes, think you need to push really really hard. Otherwise, is a private scan an option for you? I know its about £100, but might be worth considering?

My origional scan appointment was 3rd March, I oushed to get the 25th Feb Checked out the Fetal Medical Centre - anomoly is £200 I am trying to check out the NICE guidelines, even though termination isn't an option , I don't want a few days to have to deal with any bad news.

"Ultrasound screening for fetal anomalies should be routinely offered, normally between 18 weeks
0 days and 20 weeks 6 days"

Found that on the NICE website, I seriously doubt my hospital will budge though

i had my anomaly scan at 24 weeks cause the midwife forgot to tick the right box when organising scans. The ultrasound doctor (radiographer?) said it didn't matter too much with the anomaly scan. it was much more important for the nuchal scan to be within a certain window than the anomaly scan.

Not sure that helps you though. Hope it all goes well.

Mine was at 22 or 23 weeks...

At Kings in London they routinely do them between 22 and 24w as they give a clearer view of any potential abnormalities. With ds I had it at 24w, this time at 22+2.
As far as time between scan and termination, there is actually no upper limit for terminations for medical reasons and as such you would not have to make a decision in just a few days.
Obviously there is the issue of additional stress for you as you have family history issues. So it might be worth trying to bring it forward by explaining your history, but I would try not to worry about it being too late.

Asecretlemonadedrinker - although the dating scan at 12weeks isn't designed to pick up anomalies it would pick up the major problems you highlighted such as a anacephalic(missing top of head)baby, gastroschisis (bowel on outside)so although your anomaly scan is later than recommended I wouldn't worry too much if your first scan was ok.
