So I knew about varicose veins in your bottom.
And on your legs, natch.
But on your LABIA!

I had no clue!

Fourth pregnancy.
I work in a maternity unit forchrisakes.
But no-one told me!

Please say I'm not the only one!
Will I ever be able to show my DH my Va-jay-jay again?

If this information was touted around schools we could wipe out unwanted teenage pregnancy.

I had varicose veins of the labia when I was pg with dd4, it farking hurt and looked like a road smash, luckily everything went back to normal after delivery.

I used witch hazel soaked on sanitary towels to ease them, keeping them in the fridge gives a lovely cooling relief.

crankytwanky · 10/02/2010 20:50

That's what I need wafflesmum!
I asked some MWs today whether one could get TED-pants but they laughed!

Have you had them?
Do they pop in childbirth?
Will my fanjo look like Madonna's hands forever?

Does that not sting, 4andnotout?
I'll pick some up tomorrow, thank you.

I've been told an ice pack might help but that sound painful too.

It didn't sting mine anymore than they already stung, oh the joys of pregnancy 'eh

colie · 10/02/2010 20:57

This is my fourth pregnancy!! Am I now just waiting on the inevitable then?

crankytwanky and 4andnotout - what stage of pregnancy were/are you at when you got them?

Crankytwanky - hope you find something to give you a bit of relief. What are Ted-pants?

Prosecco · 10/02/2010 21:00

I had them on 2nd and 3rd- ouch and eeeeugh. But they totally disappeared. And no, they did not pop on delivery.

4andnotout · 10/02/2010 21:02

I think I was in my last trimester, I can remember being rather insulted when my consultant refused to even look at them or treat them as he told me that was one of the things I had to put up with for being pregnant, I wished for him to get varicose veins on his scrotum for the rest of my pregnancy!

abroadandmisunderstood · 10/02/2010 21:04

Ooh yeah, I had this with DS2. From about 29 weeks, I think. Mine started in my fanjo then spread down a large vein in my left leg. It throbbed so much that I had to wear up-to-fanjo support stockings until I delivered.

I feel your discomfort. Oh, and it all disappeared within minutes of the birth!

crankytwanky · 10/02/2010 21:27

Thank you all for your comforting replies.

I am in 3rd trimester.
DH said I looked "bruised" down there a few months ago but I thought it was because he was such a brute!

Colie, TED-pants are just something I made up but according to Waffle kind of exist!
(TEDs being support stockings.)

Thought they were called vaginal varices..I had them with #2; felt them from about 20 weeks. Like me bits were falling out; aching a lot. Which was great as #2 engaged bloody early so felt like evrything would give out1 The good news is that they do go straight back up after birth. I thought they were lying to me on this one, but they did just disappear!

LittleSilver · 10/02/2010 23:15

Oh gosh, I remember this. Soooooo painful! I had them with DDs 2 and 3.
Yes, they went away INSTANTLY. Unlike the flipping SPD that evryone told em would go away INSTANTLY.

asparagusaddict · 11/02/2010 11:38

oh my god

this is terrifying - is there any way to avoid them?????

please don't say don't over-eat and do lots of exercise... i haven't done any of those things. i'm 27+4

this whole pregnancy thing is just full of the most horrible surprises, i feel like my body is out of control

crankytwanky · 11/02/2010 13:36

Asparagus MW said lots of rest (yay!) and pelvic floor exercises.
