do GPs normally do antenatal checks - do they mind?

I couldnt make it to my midwife appointment last week, I am only 15 weeks but I am supposed to go every two weeks through the whole pregnancy because of high blood pressure and problems with my previous pregnancies.I called her up to explain yesterday and also because I have been getting dizzy and breathless and having palpitations.
She told me to make an appointment with the gp to have a check and mention about the other things, I have an appointment in a couple of hours.

Anyway, I have started to feel nervous! I am worried now in case the doctor doesnt actually do antenatal checks or something, also I feel silly going in and saying about the breathlessness and palpitations etc because they are so vague and I dont really know what I expect them to do about it!

Oh and I am also wondering if they will know what went on in my last pregnancies or will I have to go through it all.

do I take my maternity notes and a wee sample??

I realise its pathetic to worry about this but for some reason I am!

I had one check with GP as I had heart problems when young, she was great. It will be fine. I would take notes and a sample, if they don't want the sample, no harm done. Wouldn't be surprised if you will have to explain stuff about last pregnancies more than with the midwife though.

My surgery booked me in with GP rather than midwife quite frequently as the midwife was v overstretched. It was fine. Just treat it as if it's a midwife appointment. Take your notes and a sample and raise any concerns. You will probably have to explain any complications in previous pregnancies briefly though they will have access to your GP records, I guess.

Take your pregnancy notes.

I have been going to my GP and she doesn't mind at all. They do the same as midwife - do urine sample before you go in.... she'll check blood pressure and if you are far enough on check baby heart beat / measure you etc. Also might weigh you?

I would also ask her whether she thinks you should just see midwife, or whether in your circumstances shared care (ie between GP & midwife) is more appropriate.

Ok well that was a nightmare! the gp was upset that the midwife had told me to go there, my blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine. I also spent the morning unblocking my toilet. I have had better days. The doctor has referred it back to the midwife to decide what to do so I am now expecting a phone call from her.
