Can't sleep! Third night this week, baby seem to be on both sides and is moving in a distressed way if I lay on my side. I struggle to sleep on my back and I read somewhere its not good for O2 supply to the baby. Any suggestions?

Try to lie on your left side and put a pillow (of what ever thickness feels best) under your bump for some extra support.
I often feel Junior moving around but I shouldnt think there is distress its still their little studio apartment, if your still not comfortable maybe a sleep genie pillow designed for pregnant women?
Sleeping on your back can be even more uncomfy as you have all that baby lying on your chest and will only aggravate heart burn as well as harder breathing.

Good luck

What do you mean by distressed? Do you mean squirming and kicking a lot when you lie on your sides cos i thought it was normal! Mine has done that since about 20 weeks and now at nearly 31 weeks he still does it but stronger, sometimes it feels like he's gonna kick a hole out of my side! I would be more worried if i was laying down and never felt anything!

Yep, it all sounds par for the course. Both my babies always had an enormous aerobics session in there once I was laid on my side, I always reasoned that there was a bit more room for it then, and was a good opportunity for them to enjoy moving around a bit more.

Having said that it does make you feel despairing when you are desperate for some shut-eye. They do calm down after about half an hour or so if you can just lie and think nice thoughts until then.

First time round I found one of the long body-length pillows amazing and the only way I could get comfortable.Between the knees, under the bump, over your shoulder and arm, lie your head on top and bingo, lights out

This time round I'm having a bit more trouble, and my ribcage lies against the long pillow and feels too compressed, so I'm back to the one (flattish) pillow between the knees and under the bump. I roll off it in the night and wake up a lot, but I think that's part and parcel.

Good luck, it's miserable being trapped in a whale body that is still not roomy enough for everyone in it...

Thank you everyone, your advice is really helpful and I will try it out tonight. I was worried that the baby was communicating discomfort when kicking against the side that is down. Its reasuring to hear your babies do the same. Thanks again
