irregular cycle and due date?

i am v. excited to find i am preg again, but not sure how to calculate my due date as my cycle is completely irregular.

last month it was 30 days, the previous month it was more like 22 days. and anything in between over previous months. added to this that i ovulate fairly early in my cycle - at about day 8/9 and i really haven't a clue. so my last period was 13/1 and i ovulated on 22/1 but the dates given for conception are generally about a week after this?

it is important in terms of maternity leave etc (away in the distance i know) but also because the due date is v.close to my boy's birthday and i'd dearly love to be able to celebrate his birthday with the new baby too....(but not to be knackered and sore still!)

can anyone advise at all how i can get a more accurate idea? no docs appointment till 25th so a long time to stew otherwise....

Not sure if I can help much, but hopefully someone more useful will come along soon!

Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy!

The earlier the first scan the more accurate in dating it is supposed to be. Do you have and EPU near that your GP can refer you to?

Am a bit confused about why the due date is really that important as babies arrive anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks! Is it because you would be having a CS?

Congrats again!

I assume you're having a cs then if you're worrying about planning the day of birth?

If you know when you ovulated, then I would say the first day of your last period was 14 days before this for accuracy. I also ovulate very early in my cycle and my actual day of last period would have put me nearly a week out in terms of due date.

If you look at the bbc pregnancy calendar thingy you can calculate from the day of ovulation roughly when your due date will be.

Otherwise, the scan will tell you soon enough!

I remember with my first, they moved me forward 6 days at the 12 week scan (which actually did tie in with the one time that month I could possibly have conceived). If you know for sure that you ovulate early (like I seem to), around day 8 or 9 instead of day 14, then I'd work it out on one of those online calculators assuming a 28 day cycle, then subtract 5 or 6 days. Good luck!

Can get accurate date from scan between 6-8 weeks (acurate to a couple of days) by 12-13 weeks only accurate to nearest week.

if you know when you ovulated then count back 14 days and use that as the day of your LMP - just tell your doctor that was the day of your LMP etc.
