Hello all, for the last couple of weeks i have been stuffing myself with cookies, chocs, more cookies, failing that, jam on toasted teacakes, jam on toasted crumpets..... have tried having smaller portions of green and blacks choc, but it just gives me a headache....am scared baby will come out resembling a choc bar, or worst, addicted to chocolate.....am eating fruit too, and mullerlight yogurts, and otherwise well, but for snacks it is only chocolate that hits the spot.....what can i do....am working from home today so the cupboard is constantly being raided...please tell me i am not the only one.... and that i am not doing any harm to bump....am 21 weeks btw. you would think the guilt would stop me, but er, it isnt..

Me too 21 weeks and cakes and choc are the thing. I'm sure it is no harm at all, but trying to eat some good stuff too to balance it out.

I was a chocolate hoover for a few weeks (about 20-24), and did fret about it, DH wondered if baby was going to be 65% or 70% cocoa solids.

But heartburn is nature's answer to gluttony and since about 25 weeks eating anything very sugary makes everything hurt (I am still managing the odd chocolate biscuit, but sometimes no more than 4 over the course of an entire day!). Frankly I think you should eat up whilst you can.

I read somewhere about some study that found babies of mums who ate chocolate regularly while pg were happier than babies of those who didn't! That was my excuse and I have just scoffed a peppermint cream bar...

Just make sure you're not overdoing the caffeine if you are also a big tea/coffee drinker (as choc also has it in) but otherwise wouldn't worry too much!

I have switched to decaf tea (only have one cup in the morning) and then a can of diet coke at lunchtime, that is all the caffeine i have in liquid form.... really hoping this choccy habit passes, am sitting here with a tube of choc Hobnobs (and a litre bottle of water to balance it out.....)....

I am a chocoholic and my DD was a very contented baby so I like your theory I found when BF that I also had to eat a lot of chocolate! I had a few months gap between stopping BF and falling pregnant again when I was trying to get back to a 'normal' level of chocolate consumption.
I don't let my DH know exactly how much chocolate I do eat which solves that problem!
Yes it's not that healthy but before I had children I drank more so I see it as one treat replacing another! Life is very dull if you are perfect!

I can't stop eating it either - really crap stuff like Crunchies, Creme Eggs, Milky Bars etc! Didn't have a sweet tooth at all before I was pregnant and now the only part of a meal I can get really excited about is pudding!!

I am hoping I go back to normal once this baby is born!

bagelmonster · 11/02/2010 16:12

Oh my word passionberry, the Creme Eggs, I can't stop eating them, I actually look forward to them as the highlight of my day and look for them whenever out at shops, I can't stop, help!!!!!

whirleywoo72 · 11/02/2010 16:39

funny you should say that, my choci obsesion, is with anything, chocolate, when my husband goes to work, i have a few cheap easter eggs stashed, and indulge at my lesiure, i get heartburn, but well worth it, as long as you dont live on the stuff, i dont drink tea and coffee, i have alot of pop, i must wean myself off. my husband got me a box of cream eggs, and i cant eat the buggers now, i loved them xx

i went to see the midwife earlier this week for a normal check up and mentioned it to him, and he is lovely, but even he said 'think of the baby' (this was after i told him i had an omlette for brekkie followed by 2 choc hob nobs, and my appointment was at half nine!!) so that made me feel a bit bad, i have tried to have smaller choc bars instead of full size ones, (like penguins and breakaways) but see how it goes. not too stressed about it as am eating fruit and veg and milk etc as well, just have to have some choc along the way too!
