Am I neurotic or is this SPD?

Might just be being over sensitive,. I am 14 weeks preg and have started getting pains in one hip.
e.g. when get out of car or stand up from chair using 1 leg get sharp pain that stops me in tracks for a couple of seconds.
Turning over in bed gives dull pain in pelvic region on one side and finally when I cough get dull pain in pelvic region.

Nothing I cant cope with but paranoid due to horror stories and ex-colleague ending up in wheelchair from 4 months preg.
Hopefully you will tell me these are 'normal' - although I havent had most of them in previous pregnancies (only sharp pain sometimes when standing up -always figured just me not taking full consideration of altered centre of gravity)

Is it possible it could just be sciatica. Annoying but not as bad as spd

It doesn't sound like SPD. IME that's a fairly specific pain, concentrated at the centre of the front of your pelvis. It sounds more like sciatica. Can you get a referal to a physio?

Meanwhile, behave as tho you have SPD: keep good posture, never be asymmetrical on your hips. So don't slouch, or stick your bump out forwards, and don't take all your weight on one leg. Keep your knees together when getting in and out of cars - do the elegant pencil-skirt swivel. At night sleep with a pillow between your knees. All these things are good for sciatica as well as for SPD.

Thank-you. Seeing as ergonomic design is part of my job I really should be more aware of my posture -I've got to do more of what I tell others to do!
Having watched some-one with SPD, my full sympathies to those of you with it.

I had SPD and was misdiagnosed with sciatica from 17-21weeks. Would not wish it on anyone!

Ask your MW for a referral to obstetric physio to see what is going on. (most mat units have them)

Incidentally my SPD manifested with pelvic pain, on the left and to the back so it doesnt need to be central and to the front of pelvis, my left hip wold come out of allignment constantly.

Best of luck to you and please push for physio referral!

(echoes Glasgow Lass) Same here - misdiagnosed and told by MW my painful hips, numb bum back and bruised pubic bone feeling was a 'normal' part of pregnancy - What at 12 weeks? eh?. Oh no it wasn't.
Try to get nhs physio for help/advice, sometimes the exercises can assist in the early days (just my exp) but when they said "oh here is a belt, and here are crutches we can't do anything else for you" I went to a chiropractor and that has been immense help. Costly, but has been worth it for me to get some kind of relief. Good Luck xxx
