Right, think I have developed piles. Am third trimester and have not been constipated - in fact the opposite as all last week had (TMI!!!) almost diarrhea (sp?) when I went to the loo. Since Saturday have noticed that I seem to have developed what I can only guess is piles though. Very painful and sticky out thing that grosses me out completely. Anyone else had this and what can I do? Never had them before so have no idea of what treatment I can give. All the books I have just suggest making sure I am not constipated but this wasn't a problem with me in the first place...

Please help as really sore!

Sounds like piles! (Or... one pile - yes, it's possible to have loads more... horrible aren't they)

If you've never had them before you should really see the GP in case it's something else. But assuming it is, you can get ointment at any chemist that will help with the pain. In pregnancy (so my MW says) the constipation thing is one factor but mainly it's the weight of the baby pressing down and also the fact that your veins get weaker - and it should go away after the birth.

During pregnancy you can get piles without being constipated. It's all that pressure from the baby, I think.

You can try most over-the-counter pile remedies, just check the label or ask the pharmacist if you're not sure. IIRC the homeopathic cream is suitable for piles.

But IME, there's not much you can do to get them to go away until the baby is born. When they will probably get worse because of the pushing. But at least then you can get some stronger stuff fromt he GP. I can't remember the name of the cream, but I'm sure someone else will!

You can wet your finger and gently push them back in, drawing up your pelvic floor at the same time. They hurt less when they're inside. Pelvic floor exercises very important!

If you're PG you don't have to be constipated to develop a pile, the pressure from the baby can be enough to pop one of the veins into a painful pile down there. They're basically a varicose vein but on your bumhole.

You can get pile cream, very easily available, and it should help to numb things a bit and even make it recede back in again.

Thank you so much for your responses. Will try and get an appointment with the docs to make sure that is what they are but it does sound like it. Also will try and push them back in (though that does sound horrendous!).

SO sorry! I've been cleared by my GP to use Anusol HC cream. Available over the counter. Really helps
