big babies and glucose test

Hi have been to see consultant as have had 4 large babies. DD1 8lb 13oz DD2 9lb Ds1 9lb 11 1/2 0z and Ds2 8lb 70z. third son was the issue as had shoulder dystocia but all was fine. so as a precaution they induced DS2 at 39 weeks, so I guess at 40 + weeks he would have been over 9lb.
Now consultant has said to have glucose intolerance test, when I asked why it hadn't been done before he said it should have been as diabetes doesn't always show in urine.
I then have to have scans every two weeks from 30 weeks.
has anyone else had this and was it found that your body doesn't process sugar very well.

My first two babies were 9lb (at term) and 10lb at 38 weeks. My third was 6lb 14 1/2 oz at 37 weeks, but had Downs, so that is actually quite a heavy birthweight for a baby with Downs.

I had a GTT with my second but it was clear. My friend's first baby was 12lb and her subsequent two around 9lb, ad she also had a GTT and all was fine, she didn't have GD either. I think some people just have big babies.

Try not to worry too much.

My 2nd was 10lb 6oz (I am tiny) and they never even bothered testing me as the baby didn't have blood sugar issues. My next 2 babies were also large (9lb 2oz and 9lb 10oz) and again they didn't bother with testing me.

It's probably just because you are under consultant care due to previous shoulder issue??????

My first was 9lb2oz and DS2 was 12lb 6oz. I was tested twice in each pregnancy but was fine. I am normal weight and height, I just have big babies.

My DS was 10,8 at 41+2 and had a shoulder dystocia which sadly ( combined with a number of other factors) led to his passing away a week after he was born. However, it is not always the size of the baby which leads to a shoulder dystocia (we now know that he had been compressing his cord for a significant period of time before he was born and this may have led to the SD) .

This time obviously we are all being very cautious and infact I am planned for an elective c-section. However I still had a GTT at 28w ( which came back clear) and am having growth scans every 4 weeks just to be informed about the size (partly incase I go into labour before the planned section). This little chap is looking to be as large as his brother, so I figure that I just grow big babies.

I wouldn't worry about the test, it doesn't do any harm to be informed.

I hope that all goes well.
