cramps at 36 weeks?

Over the past 2 weeks or so I've been having mild period pain type cramps occasionally. They tend to last between 10 minutes and half an hour, then subside completely. Does anyone know if this is normal, or maybe a sign of early pre-labour (cervix dilating maybe)? Or should I be worried and call mw?

Hi

Sounds normal to me (is it braxton hicks they call them?) just your body getting ready.

Hi, I'm 36 wks too and have been having the same thing for a few weeks now........i think it's just our bodies preparing themselves for labour. No need to worry unless they develop a pattern or get gradually stronger.

I'm having these too! I'm 36+a few days at the minute, and have been having these cramps for the past few days.

They subside quite quickly, but when they are there they are sore!

I've spoken to a few older women who have had children (this is my 1st) and they say it's just the baby getting itself into place, and the body getting ready to start labour at some stage.

I don't think it means we'll go into labour early, but we might.

I think the rule of thumb is BH are NOT painful, contractions are painful. If they are just mild cramps then it is, as the others say, most probably just your body getting ready, BUT I would always speak with your MW for reassurance, they are trained and we are not (except for any MNetters who are MW's of course!).

Not long to go now though, how exciting - wishing you lots of luck for the arrival of your LO's!
