Go Ape - bad idea?

Hi,
I've recently found out I'm pregnant (I'm 5 1/2 weeks), and this morning remembered that me and my partner have got a voucher for Go Ape that has to be used by October - just about when I'm due. Never been, but was really looking forward to it, but now worried. It says on the website that if pregnant you have to sign a disclaimer, which looks a bit worrying, but I imagine it's mostly a legal thing. Has anyone been to Go Ape when pregnant? Or any suggestions on whether it would really be dangerous or not? Any advice welcome!!

They probably wouldn't let you do it in October and I wouldn't risk it now tbh.

Hmmm, if it were early pregnancy then no problem, but you're going to have a hell of a job fitting into the safety harness at term. It will rub...

Your centre of gravity shifts when you're heavily pg and you won't be able to see your feet and where you are putting them, so if I were going to do it, I would do so as early in the year as possible. Although, having seen the course near us, I wouldn't do it, pg or not .

Do it sooner rather than later. I've done it a couple of times. It's great fun. Once you're showing, it would be very uncomfortable indeed.

I agree - if you want to go, go soon. As long as you pay attention during the safety demonstration at the beginning, where they show you how your harness works and how to clip on to the safety rope, it's not dangerous. As long as you're clipped on you won't fall any distance at all.

I still go to my local indoor climbing wall at 17 weeks (similar deal, but with a top-rope). A lot of people might think that was too risky but nothing's absolutely risk free these days and activities like that are really carefully monitored.

I personally wouldn't. Call them, explain and they will probably reissue for next year.

I went to Go Ape in Dorset with a hen party and the pregnant lady among us didn't participate, not sure if it was her choice or if she wasn't allowed. I'd give them a ring and see what they say. The harness does pull upwards quite a bit and some jumps can be very jerky. When I went you had until the first obstacle to change your mind and pull out and you still got your money back. If you go beyond that you didnt get a refund. This was about 4 yrs ago though.

when I was 5 weeks, I went to Thorpe Park and went on all the rides, am now 32 weeks with a little boy, Doctor said that because it was so early little baby hadn't even attached at that point so wasn't really a risk, it's entirely up to you though but I would have thought it's best to go earlier rather than later.....

Or sell the voucher nad go when little one is born

BellasYummyMummy · 06/02/2010 13:46

i agree with lilredwg, i would call up and see if they will let you use the voucher at a later date. I rang up when i was in the first trimester and they advised me against doing it, there's probably no harm at all but i would rather be on the safe side.

Hmm, cheers for all the advice! Might give them a ring and see if we can change the voucher till next year maybe. It was a 30th birthday present, so definitely don't want to waste it or give it away, but not sure I've got the guts to risk it, even though the sensible bit of my head knows it'd probably be fine!
