best maternity tights?

I'm really struggling to find any that stay up - I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks in sctoland and really need a pair of decent thick opaque tights that stay up. I have 2 pairs from next and they're beyond useless, around my ankles in no time!

Only other thing I can think of is stockings with a big suspender belt (if I can get one to fit above bump (am 25 weeks).

help!

Hold ups. Just don't moisturise or talc your legs where they need to stay up or they won't. Plus they're not as over priced as maternity tights.

The M+S ones are rubbish but I actually found the Top Shop ones to be great.

BellasYummyMummy · 04/02/2010 16:09

i found marks and spencers OK, but the trick is to wear a vest or top underneath your clothes for the tights to 'hold' on to. they have never fallen down if i am wearing something underneath. If they're just against my skin there;s no hope!

I got some from Mamas and Papas but they were £8

I was told that Morrisons fatty tights were very good for preggo birds.

bogie · 04/02/2010 17:28

Mamas and Papas and H&M both do good ones

kitcat1977 · 04/02/2010 17:30

The Emma wotsit ones on ASOS are £8 and rubbish. Looked so trashy continually hoiking them up at my cousin's wedding. Hold ups, I reckon (and it means you get to treat yourself to something that isn't maternitywear!)

gnatbite · 04/02/2010 18:14

I got the New Look ones - again, they were £8 but no problems with rolling down etc so far....

ExpectingtoBU · 04/02/2010 18:21

Hold-ups, definitely. I couldn't bear anything clinging to my bump. Hold-ups were the perfect solution. You can get good opaque ones too, as well as sheer.

gingerkirsty · 04/02/2010 18:28

I had the 20 denier version of these for NYE and they were fab - £3.99 with free postage too!

LadyPops · 04/02/2010 20:35

I'm 5'1 and a size 14 (16 on a bad day) - do you think hold ups would work? I've never tried them as I just assumed they'd roll down or look bloody awful on my thighs...

I found the H&M ones to be pretty good, and I usually have a nightmare wearing tights when not pregnant (they roll down all the time). I'm a size 12/14... I also found the Mothercare ones OK, but prefer my H&M ones. You could try hold ups as well though. I usually wear them when not pregnant as I can never find tights that fit properly...

superbean · 05/02/2010 12:10

Can you get some mamaspanx? They are expensive but worth it for a wedding, and then you also don't have to wear knickers unless you want to. This is good under a dress cos you don't get VPL. Otherwise I have found the Mothercare ones to be ok for everyday.

MumNWLondon · 05/02/2010 12:12

I found that the mothercare ones are much better than M&S (which were useles) - recommend maternity support tights as they are more likely to stay up! I just bought some opaque ones - they have quite a good range.

shipsladyg · 07/02/2010 18:27

I'm a size 18 and not blessed with skinny legs and Hold Ups seem to be fine with me. However I prefer the ones with either the two strips of holding up rubber stuff or a very wide one.

stressheaderic · 08/02/2010 11:38

I gave up on tights at 25ish weeks, baby didn't like them at all, used to squirm all day long when I wore them, even looser maternity ones.
Hold ups weren't bad, although a bit 'chilly', in the end, I started wearing thinnish leggings under skirts and dresses instead. Not the cotton ones but the slightly shiny ones from New Look, under the bump. In fact, leggings have been a godsend this pregnancy, as I hate jeans...thank god they are back in fashion!

Another vote for the H&M ones here. I'm almost 34 weeks and they're still ok. Enjoy the wedding.

asparagusaddict · 08/02/2010 12:03

i haven't found any decent tights either.

wolford hold ups are excellent - they are super expensive though, like about £20. they were my last resort after spending an absolute fortune on ones that fall down/cut circulation off/disintegrate after one wear. i'm glad i got them though, despite the cost they've been a really good buy - very comfy, they wash well and retain their shape. they sit really high up on your leg too so you would't be too cold.
