Hi people, I have a read of the posts daily but this is my first post - for the last week i have felt lots of baby movement (first baby so quite excited - lots of tickles and butterfly type movements) but havent felt anything at all since last night....do i panic and call midwife and give it a bit more time - have been having headaches last couple of days - dont want to get worked up if nothing to worry about....advice greatly appreciated x

have an ice cold drink. if this doesn't cause a bit of kicking, give your midwife a call.

Call your midwife for reassurance. I'm sure it'll all be fine, but no point just sitting worrying about it. It's probably just that the bay has moved position.

Have you tried drinking ice cold water or lying down and having some chocolate? Both of these things have worked for me in the past.

Let us know how you get on.

but don't worry too much, lo might have turned around and be kicking somewhere less sensitive. best to check, though

Thanks for quick response - will give that a go.

If you felt strong movements last night your baby is probably fine. Mine always moved at lot more at night when I was still but not much when I was active during the day - sometimes not at all. I guess they are lulled by your movements and sleeping. I imagine that later today your baby will give a few reassuring kicks and you'll relax. With a first baby at 20 weeks the movements are as you describe, quite gentle so you won't feel all of them anyway.

But I think seeking reassurance if you are anxious is never a waste of time so if you are concerned call your midwife and see if you can get checked. Have you had your 20 week scan yet?

sallyjaygorce · 01/02/2010 13:33

Oh - drinking fizzy drinks and walking around can help get the little one going too.

Saucepanman · 01/02/2010 13:37

Try not to worry, they sometimes don't move a lot at this stage. Your placenta could be at the front and masking it, or it could have moved positions- this happened to me the other week, I could tell that baby had moved and sure enough it was fine. Ring mw if worried though

Hi Virgo 1979

I'm in the same boat - I'm 22 weeks now and have been feeling movement since 16 weeks. Last week it just seemed to stop - she wasn't moving about half as much as normal and then didn't.

V scary. I recommend talking to your midwife - mine was really good. I saw my GP who was TERRIBLE - acted like I was being a complete idiot and couldn't believe that I could even feel any kicks anyway. I really hate her!

Upshot is- baby is fine, I've had the same thing today where she hasn't moved all morning (she's normally a wriggler at 6am and 11am) but I have felt a couple of tiny kicks recently.

I think maybe she's growing like crazy at the moment (they double in size 20-24 weeks, I read) so maybe there's not as much space or she's just not kicking as much?

Do check with you mw though. They say after 24 weeks if you don't feel anything for 24 hours, they'll scan you for reassurance.

xx

Hi tiredtiredtired, i had my scan today and all was fine, could see and feel baby kicking too, think baby mve have just moved to a different position and thats why i could feel movement as much... i agree though its very worrying and so hard not to freak out, glad all is well with both of us though x oh and can empathise with the name tiredtiredtired, i can sleep for England right now, day or night

My advice is to always get the baby checked if there is any change in movements at all - whether to more or less. No one on here can possibly say that all is fine and tbh it makes me a bit when people listen to strangers about something like this when they are saying all is fine.

My baby nearly died so I am quite aware I am a bit ott with this.
