Can someone help me. I just had my ultrasound on Friday and the Dr. told me that I had a positive screen for Down Syndrome. I had a 1/140 chance of having a baby with DS.

MY results are as follows

CRL 55.0mm
NT 1.2mm
BPD 18.3mm
Nasal bone present
B-hCG 2.099 MoM
PAPP-A 0.370 MoM

I am 31 and this is my 3rd pregnancy with no previous history of DS. ANY HELP please
I don't understand. Every time I Google low PAPP-A i get so many different answers.

Please help.

Hello, I wanted to answer, because I know these results can be scary.

I'm not a medic but your NT thickness is much lower than mine, and I'm not high risk. I think it might be your blood results that have put you in a high risk category. I would ask to see the consultant, or at least your midwife, tomorrow, and have these results explained. If you are lucky, someone in the know might reply tonight.

My scan was okay, but she did say the bloods can dramatically change your overall result. She said that it didn't matter if the B-hcg and the papp-a were high or low, it was more that they needed to be similar. So, both high or both low was okay.

I would stop googling and frightening yourself - just get on the phone first thing. Because of your risk, you should be offered an amnio. I have friends who've had one, and I don't think it's nearly as bad as it sounds - just get a recommendation for best person at your hospital.

Just keep it firmly in your head that it is massively more likely that your baby is fine.

Good luck x
