Hi, have just found out to my absolute joy that I am pregnant (have been ttc#2 for 2 years!). I am due to go on a school trip to Washington with work in 2 weeks when I will be 7 weeks. Question is - should I tell my collegues I'm pregnant incase there are problems (am so paranoid!) or just hope its all ok???

any thoughts?

Congratulations!

I'd keep it quiet till 12 weeks personally, maybe tell the trip organiser and check that the travel insurance covered me - don't want to get stuck in the american healthcare system.

Congratulations!

I do think you should let someone know, yes. Not just in case there are any problems in terms of a medical emergency but because work might need to know for their own records.

It might affect health and safety or insurance policies and create a major problem for everyone concerned if came out at the worst possible time.

I wouldn't tell yet, you have no reason to

flintski · 31/01/2010 08:26

Thanks all

EldonAve - I really want to do as you say but I am a little worried about insurance as you say Trickle and Spannerweb.
I think I might take some out of my own so I am doubly covered and keep it quiet if I can - Don't want to panic anyone unnecessarily!

I wouldn't tell but take out own travel insurance just in case. However you might start having symptoms by then (nausea?) and it might be hard to keep it quiet.

I told work in a very similar situation, school trip in Europe at 9 weeks. I told them for insurance purposes and also in case of medical need. God forbid something would go wrong but I knew if something did I'd rather not having to explain it all from scratch! Also it made easier than pretending to avoid drink in the evenings. Also it was nice that I wasn't expected to help lift luggage etc.

I don't think you need to declare it for insurance

Thanks again for all the useful comments. I don't think I do have to declare it for insurance (pregnancy isn't even mentioned in the small print of my own travel insurance i now discover) so... I think I am going to attempt to keep it quiet for all sorts of work reasons. I was lucky enough not to have sickness with my first and am hoping it will be the same this time! and I'm going with 6th formers so they should be happy to carry own bags etc! It just feels way to early at 7 weeks for it to be common knowledge.
