Anyne else find themselves completely unable to park a car when pregnant?

I pride my self on my parking skills, I may not always get it right first time but I can't stand leaving a badly parked car. Reversing into a bay is my speciality (parallel parking my worst). However I find the minute I get pg I completely lose my ability to park! Is it hormones? My driving instructor (female) used to say it was common for lessons to go wrong when you have PMT so maybe it is just hormones.

And on Monday I've got to drive a massive automatic Ford Torneo with 7 colleagues - eek!

I find it more difficult turning around to get the correct line and am a little out of sorts visual-spatially so my reversing and parking is not as tip top in the third trimester as it normally is.
Am more tired and also have a slightly more 'can't be arsed' attitude which I'm sure doesn't help

I am sure I have read that hormones affect your spacial awareness, which of course would make parking tricky.

Not sure if it's true or not though!

FWIW, I scraped our car a few weeks back when I was 20something weeks pg. But, I was also ill and upset after talking to ds's nursery teacher about stuff, so can't completely blame the hormones.

Yes! I actually reversed into someone in a car park when I was 30 weeks pg - I completly forgot to check my mirrors. I dont tend to drive much now and if I do I am extra careful.

NorbertDentressangle · 30/01/2010 12:25

I found physically turning round when reverse parking quite difficult (don't tend to rely solely on mirrors).

Also when I was pregnant with DD the car park where I worked was a nightmare, really small and awkward and people would double park or park too close etc.

On more than one occasion (late on in pregnancy when I was mahoosive quite big) I had to go into the office and get someone to either park my car or get it out of a space as I physically couldn't squeeze between the cars to get in or out of the car .

Yes! it's too embarassing- especialy as when not preggers I can paralell park in the tightest of spots (result of learning to park in a 1960's land rover with no power steering!)

Glad it's not just me. Oh and post baby was just as bad. DD 6 days old, my first trip driving with her on my own, trying to get to the bfing group and in the car park I reversed into some stupid low-walled planter. Cue me walking in the bfing group for the first time bawling that I had just crashed my car with my new born baby in it (there wasn't a scratch btw!)

No, in fact I put it in a tiny space last week - I'm not sure I've any increased parking powers - but my sense of belligerence is greatly increased and I'd like to see anyone try to tell me off for bumping their car!

When I was pregnant with my first child I had 2 very near misses and I know it was because I was pregnant. Scared the blinking life out of me.

Interesting to read the responses as I've just passed my driving test (first time!) on Tuesday at 35 weeks pregnant. Was lucky enough to get a reverse bay park (easy peasy) on the test as I do find parallel parking challenging at times...wonder how much is hormonal and how much is just being a novice (have been driving for about 4 months)?

Reckon the examiner probably passed me as he was worried I'd cry or go into labour or something if he didn't (still did nearly cry when he said I passed - bloody hormones )

mama2moo · 30/01/2010 17:41

caitni Congratulations That will make your life so much easier with a baby

Caitni · 30/01/2010 19:02

Thanks Mama2moo! Was very relieved (another thing off the pre-baby to do list!).

2andcounting · 30/01/2010 19:13

actually is one of the things (there's a long list) that tips me off that i might be pg- esp parallel parking
