Bath Seats and SPD?

I'm 38 weeks and haven't had a bath for about 8 or longer weeks (but I've had showers )when I got stuck due to the pain, and I could hardly muster up the strength to pull myself out. OH had a time of it trying to help me out as I was trying really hard not to damage my wee pelvis! Oh the pain...
I feel really uncomfy now and would love to try and get into a bath for when the cramps/contractions start. Has anyone used a bath seat or does anyone have experience with them. I think I would try to get one that would allow my lower half to be submerged in the water, but at least if I am not lying in the bath there is a better chance that I will be able to stand up to get out??

Sorry for you. I also got stuck in the bath when pregnant and with wretched SPD and it was actually very frightening and painful.

I don't know about seats but they would not have appealed to me TBH. Instead I spent some of my early labour in the shower which was good as the warm water was soothing but I was able to keep moving around a little and not get "frozen" in one position as I might have in the bath.

Have you considered hiring a birthing pool? Just to loll around in at home even if you are expecting a hospital delivery? Might not be too late?

Hi Domestics, you totally read my mind.
I got a loan of a kindof bath seat thing tonight, and tbh my bum was too big and it's too much hard work trying to lower myself in and not do any damage and then get back out again! My legs were the only part of me that actually got in the water!!
Was saying to OH that I wish I could go swimming, but there's no hope of being able to climb out some of these pools. Then there's the drying and trying to dress myself afterwards.
I think I will go online and see if I can hire one, even for the last few weeks it would be a god send to get some kind of relief. I think that with all my weight gain and water retention I couldn't even kneel in the bath as it felt like my legs were going to burst open . Ah well, not long to go now though eh? and you are right getting stuck in there is pretty frightening I don't think I will be attempting a bath for quite some time Thanks for your tips xxx

God it's awful isn't it?

All I can say is that my midwife said that my SPD actually helped me have a quicker labour (on hands and knees- highly recommended) so I very much hope the same applies to you. xx

If you don't intend to actually labour in it, argos have some very cheap paddling pools (you can get a nice big deep inflatable one for about £25-£29) for lolling about in.

What you could do is position a kitchen chair half in half out, so you can sit on it, keep your knees together and just swivel your legs over the side (with help from your dh) then carefully lower yourself in. You have my sympathy, I had it really bad in my last pregnancy, it's horrible!
