Just looking for a bit of advice on acid reflux. The past few weeks I've had a horrible feeling of constriction from the top of my bump up to my breastbone. It's always worse at night when laying down though I do get it during the day too. I'm asthmatic and have thus far blamed it on my asthma worsening from the growing bump. But went back to my GP today and he reckons this "blocked" feeling may well be acid reflux and has got me to basically trial taking gaviscon and (or potentially eventually ranitidine (sp?))before bed to see if this makes a difference. I'm really just wondering if anyone elses symptoms for this have presented in the same way as me. Everything I google seems to just say main symptom is a burning sensation (which I get very occasionally). Sorry for long post but it's keeping me awake every night 24+2 weeks by the way. Thank you

Hi First,
i'm 8 wks and have awful acid indigestion/reflux too. Once you have damaged the oesophagus a bit ( acid coming up - burping or throwing up,or just acid reflux due to hormone changes) it does feel like there's a lump in your chest - it can feel painful and even like there;s a pain in your back.

I've been reading quite a few threads on the subject from the archives (search 'acid' in thread titles) - omprazole is recommended (on prescrip) and ranitidine; bottles of gaviscon are also recommended; and things like don't eat sugar/fat/acidic foods in the evening; tilt your bed up with telephone directories or use lots of pillows; and some people swear by warm milk (tho it doesn't seem to help me!). Eating little and often is key, and walking after eating also helps.

Hope that helps - i am off to the doc's asap to get me a prescrip!

I had this with my first pregnancy and again with this one. Make sure the gaviscon you have has 'advance' on the label as it is stronger and works better than the one you can buy off the shelf. Old wives tales say it means a hairy baby - rang true for me!

My DS had gastric reflux from very early on -he was on ranitine (as well as infant gaviscon) and it worked.

Tried omeprazole for him as well, but it didn't work as well.

My acid reflux feels like a big lump in the throat if that is any help.... luckily gaviscon works for me.

Hope you feel better.

hi, i'm 41 weeks and have suffered from acid reflux for a while.. little and often does indeed help.. as does drinking milk (for me anyway).

Bananas! are also a winner.

I second RLY's advice - I'm 32 weeks and religiously have a cup of warm milk before bed after doing an internet search on this subject(I can't take Gaviscon cos it doesn't agree with me). My acid reflux used to wake me up constantly (so I completely sympathise) but haven't been woken up because of it since I started with the milk.

Hope you find something that works

I've been taking 2x5ml of gaviscon every night for about a week now and have definitely noticed a difference, so will keep going with it for a while, as I don't really want to start taking the ranitidine if I can help it.
hophop Hairy baby?! Are you serious?!

Oh and I've also started drinking a glass of milk with my evening meal
