This is my first pregnancy and it is all a bit daunting!

I have my 20 week scan next week, I have a good diary of events from my midwife with scans and appointments, but not sure when I should start doing all the other stuff.

Just sent off for parenting classes with the NHS and looking into joining the NCT. But what about when to start antenatal classes, yoga classes or anything else I have to do classes!!

you don't have to do yoga/antenatal classes

it isn't compulsary

however, they can be good places to meet other expectant mums

Yoga advised after 29 weeks and 24 for aquanatal - I think! I'm supposed to be going to NHS parentcraft on Sat and I'll be 34 weeks then. Only one session a month offered where I am, and that's advised after 30 weeks for some reason! Not sure about NCT, not doing classes with them sorry! Hope that helps? You can always double check with your mw or someone at the hospital when you have your 20 week scan but I think thats about accurate.. Well, accurate for my area anyway, not sure if different NHS trusts advise different things!

If you want to do NCT, then look into it asap. They get full very quickly. They will put you in a group of ladies that are due within a few weeks of you either way, eg: I was due in mid Sept, and I was in the Aug/Sept 08 babies group.

My NHS class was allocated in pretty much the same way.

I did pg pilates and aquafit pretty much from 4 months on - I liked that I had an hour or so to myself once or twice a week (now that DS is 16 months old, it is more like once or twice a year). With this kind of stuff you can do it, and benefit from it all the way through pg.

Congratulations and good luck!

It might be worth looking into you local Surestart centre to see if they do parenting classes.

And for yoga/pilates/aquanatal make sure that it is a pg specifice class, or at least that the instructor knows that you are pg and is qualified to know what you should/shouldn't be doing.
