recommendations for maternity bras?

Can anyone recommend a good maternity bra - no underwiring, but lots of support, but not cut so high up the chest that you cannot wear scoop neck/v neck tops (this is the problem with most of them, I find).
Thank you
Madigan

Bodas - they are awesome! Not the cheapest but are cut perfectly (you can wear lower tops) and provide great support.

Hotmilk are also good and look sexy!

why no underwirign? underwires are fine so long as they fit properly (Bravissimo or John Lewis, not M&S or mothercare)

Because underwire hurts when you already have tender boobs. Ouchy

I love Hotmilk.

Hotmilk ones didn't really fit me well, so they just looked silly on me; and I found most other sorts looked lumpy under clothes. So I switched to non-wired t-shirt bras - either from Mothercare or M&S maternity ranges, or in the end I actually preferred M&S normal (non-maternity) non-wired ones, you can get them quite cheap in twin-packs too whereas proper maternity ones can be expensive! It does depend a bit how big you get though.

I would go to a proper lingerie shop where they measure you and advise you. My first two times breastfeeding I just bought bras fro mothercare and was uncomfortable. For my third I made sure I went to our local shop during pregnancy and just before birth (didn't think I'd have time after!) They measured me and I tried lots of different designs until I found a comfy, practical and surprisingly pretty one. They weren't much more expensive and I found feeding so much easier as I felt supported and didn't have to struggle with awkward fastenings or strange ways of opening them. (I had compared different styles and tried them beforehand) Even if you know your size, they do come up differently and you won't know unless you try lots. HTH. x

Good ol' Marks!

Although ditto - get measured as I went up 2 sizes!

If you can, pop to a Bravissimo. Fantastic fitting service - mine are really comfortable, and not prohibitive in colour or cup coverage, despite me being a 32J as we speak! I spent my last pregnancy unable to wear any kind of bra as the mothercare/M&S types were so uncomfortable (well, M&S doesn't go about a G cup, so I was out of luck there anyway!), and I have awful stretch marks on my boobs, possibly as a result. Getting my DS to latch on was something I never mastered either.(I could only BF for a few days because of medication.)

The maternity bras from Bravissimo aren't as expensive as some of the underwired ones, and as I say, the customer service is great. The fittings are really good too. If there isn't a store too nearby, they deliver too, and have good advice for fitting yourself.

I didn't want to spend too much on bras that I may only be able to wear for a month or so... I'm 7 weeks away from due date and don't know what size I'll be after birth. So, I've bought some cheap sports bras from Sainsburys and Asda. They're not the most attractive, but comfortable and supportive and less than 5 pounds each.

I swear by Emma Jane lace trim maternity / nursing bras. No under-wiring, 95% cotton, soft and comfy, but feminine (if not exactly sexy) and they give a flattering shape too. I've been wearing mine for 3.5 years, day in, day out and one of the three is just about starting to conk out. They are £20 on the Jojo website, but there are probably slightly cheaper places.

honeybunmum · 24/01/2010 20:31

Mmmm, but I bought an Emma Jane bra (from a website) in the size I was measured at at a bra shop and it didn't fit well. It had little beads in the middle which when the bra folded over at the weight of my enormous knockers (!!!) rubbed a sore patch .
I still say... go and get properly measured and try lots. x
