Yes private clinics do scanning, not sure how much it costs though - google "pregnancy scanning " to find a local clinic.

GBS is very common; one in four pregnant women carry GBS - you should discuss with GP now if worth testing, and when pregnant whether any reason for additional scan for medical reasons it should be available on NHS, often private scans just check for same things as NHS ones.

You can be tested for GBS now and also when pregnant - and you might not still be carrying it - even if you are, most of risks around time of birth and every precaution would be taken to ensure that your baby did not have it.

xmelx - I am a bit confused as to the link between group strep b and a scan to check for evry abnormality????? There is no link between the two surely?

Your standard 20 weeks will be looking for abnormalities that is why it is called an "anomoly scan". The private clinics are often very reluctant to do anomoly scans, they are more into the 3d "look at your baby" scans.

If you had GBS issues with your first child, then you will be offered IV antibiotics for during your labour. You need 4 hours of antibiotics to be effective, if you don't get the full dose, your baby may be given antibiotics immediately after birth as well. Have you looked at the group strep b UK website? It is full of information.
