Newly pregnant but spotting - can I exercise?

Sorry if this has already been dealt with but couldn't find anything on it.

I got my BFP yesterday at 11DPO so it's VERY early, but have had light spotting since 3DPO. I do have a slight cervical erosion so often have random bouts of spotting anyway. Had a mc last year and at this stage with all the spotting I don't know if this pg will stick.

Some stuff I've read online says not to exercise if spotting, but I really thought that was just an old wives' tale - surely it won't affect whether I'm going to mc or not? I usually run for 50 mins 3 times a week but haven't been for a couple of weeks due to snow etc.

Can't get hold of my Gynae to ask her. Just curious to know what others think or have been advised..?

personally i wouldnt risk it.Might be the erosion or the pg

Doing exercise that you are already accustomed to won't make any difference as to whether the pregnancy will stick or not.

However, if you do exercise and the worse should happen you may blame yourself for not having rested (even though it won't have made any difference!) In which case you may just want to take things easy for a bit. Good luck with your pregnancy and congratulations!

I have exercised although am not overdoing it... have been told its ok to exercise and shouldn't affect outcome but SIL bled whenever she exercised and was told not to... i guess if any discomfort or spotting gets worse as a result of exercise you shouldn't... might want to discuss with DR

Thank you for your replies. I still feel nervous about it even though I know mc is never actually caused by exercise! Stupid really. May try a walk or a swim instead and talk to dr next week if I am still pg by then.

What Lubylu said. Hopefully you will be ok and then you can get back on track but I've been there and in your shoes, I would lay off for a while. Maybe just walk like you say. Good luck with your pg.

My doctor told me not to do anything strenuous (sp?) when I had spotting at about 6 weeks. He said just to walk. I took this as the perfect excuse to do bugger all for the rest of my pg.

Congratulations on your BFP and sending you lots of sticky vibes.

Oh, I am now 37+6... and doing LOTS of walking in a bid to move things along...

Thanks.

It's a bit frustrating as I've had PCOS related fertility probs (ovulating very irregularly) and exercise had played a big part in helping with that - don't want to undo all the hard work I've done getting fit. But I suppose running is a bit 'strenuous'. Wish the spotting would just go away...

You could swim, I reckon that is safe enough.
