Can sex dislodge the mucous plug?

Had an unexpected bit of blood this morning during - um - carnal activities. Not too much, bit gunky, not bright red and no pain or anything. Carnal activities in question were nothing out of the ordinary or especially gymnastic.

Baby seems to be kicking around in her normal way (in breech position), not noticing anything unusual there.

I'm currently 35+2 weeks with DC1.

I'm wondering if this is "a show" - in which case, I don't suppose there's anything to worry about as I believe the plug can come out a few weeks before labour is due to begin without it being a problem.

On the other hand, does it sound like I should get it medically checked out?

Thanks in anticipation for any advice or similar experiences...

At only 35 wks, I would suggest getting checked over tbh. I'm sure all is well but better safe.

good luck.

Sex shouldn't dislodge the plug, maybe it was going anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts lia

Having looked into this further, I'm now fairly convinced that this wasn't a true "show", but a bit of minor bleeding from my cervix. It seems the natural thinning of the cervical lining that takes place means there is often blood spotting after sex, especially in later pregnancy. The fact that I haven't had any other symptoms and that the blood is brownish in colour suggests this is the most likely explanation.

Having said that, I'm going to have a chat with my MW tomorrow just in case she thinks I should do anything else.

Anyone else experienced spotting apres sex in the third trimester?

same thing happened to me last weekend after the same kind of activities. i was 33+2

i consulted trusty MN and decided as the bleed was tiny and the bit of mucus small, and baby was moving as normal i would not bother the on call midwife (it was a sunday).

i saw my CMW yesterday and she said i should have phoned and been checked out! - gave me a bit of a telling off but said since it had all settled now there was no point in sending me for monitoring now.

she did say that it was no problem though and that sex can continue without fear of bringing on early labour - Hubby is

was wondering how soon you have a show does labour kick off been having it all day?????? 39 weeks!

at least your getting some DH refusing!

Quick update - went to see the MW this morning and she said it all sounded pretty normal, but she checked the baby's heartbeat anyway. No sign of fetal distress, so all's well.

DH is very relieved - he was worrying about it more than I was!
