Painful palpation?!?

Hi all

Had consultant appointment yesterday and as the title says, had some painful palpation!! Lol. It has never hurt when my midwife has done it but yesterday I was actually wincing as she prodded and poked about! Then she said that she couldn't be sure that baby was head down but would check again at next appointment (in 4 weeks). I'm still sore today and just under my bump is tender to touch (where she prodded the most!) So, I guess what I'm asking is, does palpation get more painful the further along you are? Was that normal? I'm 32 weeks now! Dreading seeing her at 36 weeks

I absolutely hate it - its not that its really painful but tender and uncomfortable and makes me jump and tense. Bleurgh had forgotten all about it

I am 38 weeks and has been sore since about 34 weeks.

Ugh always happened to me in both pregnancies, always felt tender and even painful in places! They seem to dig their fingers right in don't they? Ouch i won't miss that bit of pregnancy lol.

Yup, she seemed to be digging her fingers in and even today I'm still quite tender!! Ugh.. Only 8 weeks left hopefully

If it hurts, tell her to stop (practice saying "stop that AT ONCE" in a stern tone of voice at home - a hand bit of advice from Mary Cronk).

She shouldn't need to palpate so hard you're still sore the next day from it. If she's not confident which way up the baby is and feels she needs to know she can do a scan - she doesn't need to leave you bruised, and she certainly doesn't need to leave you bruised without explaining what she's trying to find out and why its so important she does it through palpation...
