I?m looking for some advice. Im 41 plus 1 weeks pregnant and im being induced on Sunday. I go in at 15:30. Im in Plymouth so it would be derriford hospital. Has anyone got any advice or knowledge on what will happen? The midwife tried to give me a sweep on Monday but I am too closed so she could not do it. I?m now really scared that I won?t go into labour before Sunday. I have a fear of hospitals already and I have also been suffering from pre natal depression which has made me agoraphobic and i don?t like to be left alone without my husband with me, so I was wondering like if he can stay with me during the inductions etc?

Also does anyone know the percentages of people who actually have to have inductions for being overdue?

This is my first pregnancy.

thanks guys im just really scared

Try not to panic, the end is in sight! In a few days you'll be holding your beautiful baby. Try to focus on that for now.
Sunday is a long way off! There are lots of things you could try to get your labour started, not sure which actually work but at least it'll give you something to 'do'.
*drink raspberry leaf tea or take capsules
*eat fresh pineapple
*eat a curry
*have some rumpy pumpy
*go for a long walk...not on your own!
Nearer the time you could check what your hospital's policy is on partners and when they can stay with you or have to go home. It varies greatly depending on where you live.
Fingers crossed it all starts quickly and naturally for you.

I have been induced for both my pregnancies and it has been fine both times. (although I don't have a naturally started birth to compare them too)

1st time I had the pessary and this was enough to get things going, however once fully dilated my contractions stopped so then I was put on the syntocin drip.
but the birth was fine and manageable with pain relief.
and the syntocin made my stomach contract back really quickly with out any afterpains when breastfeeding.

2nd time DS had passed meconium so they needed things to happen a bit quicker so put me on the syntocin drip straight away, this birth was quicker than than my first and the second stage of labour was much quicker and more intense, but the gas and air was all I needed and found this birth to be brilliant.

try not to be too worried it is not necessarily going to be really bad if you are induced.

You will be able to really discuss your birth plan with the hospital staff and you will be able to ask for an epidural before you are given the syntocin if you are really scared.

Forgot to say that you could ask the hospital in advance if they have a private room you could use, most of them do it will just depend how busy they are,

it will cost but might be worth it as it might make you slightly more calm than the ward, and your husband is more likely to be allowed to stay with you outside of visiting hours.
(my local hospital it is £150 per night)
you could ring them before Sunday to discuss this option

if you need the syntocin drip, this will be done in the delivery suite and therefore your husband will be able to stay throughout anyway.
