A little bit of a daft question but I love them and I'm wondering if I'm allowed them?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant (and my scans on friday, but thats besides the point.....)

I hope someone comes on and says yes

Its pasteurised milk and not raw egg so surely ok?!

God I love them. Best cure for poorly sore throats too, so soothing. I associate them with being allowed one as a treat when I was off school with a cold/sore throat...

Pasteurised = fine

I hope they're ok too! I've had several things with confectioners custard in - including egg custards and vanilla slices. They're just so tasty~!

To be honest, I can't imagine it being a problem. The mixture, while it does contain eggs and milk, is cooked before it's chilled IIRC. So, I would guess that it's fine.

they are fine

good non-hysterical food guidelines here for future reference

I've eaten soft-boiled eggs all the way through this pg as long as they are British and have the lionmark. There hasn't been salmonella in British eggs for years. Sooner or later the guidelines will catch up with this and change I expect (bit like the revised peanut guidelines). Just give 'em a decade or two...sigh.

What the heck have you been eating throughout your pregnancy? White bread and olive oil?

littleomar · 19/01/2010 15:13

i've just made ice cream with raw eggs in it and not for the first time (the baby's going to come out addicted.

i think as the previous poster said salmonella is pretty rare in the UK these days - according to heston blumenthal any risk is likely to be from dirt on the outside of the shells, so i've been washing them before i use them but that's it.
