Has anyone been off work with morning sickness?

I'm now on my way home from work(supposed to work till eight) because i have been sick twelve times today, and running back and forth the toilets in a large call centre is, i find, frankly degrading. With people commenting through toilet door as i noisily hurl 'hang over love?' . But i'm terrified because my manager has made me feel like a drama queen and as though i should consider working the hours back instead of takingthe time off sick. Is this reasonable? Should i make an effort to work it back in my 2nd trimester when i hopefully feel better?

I went off sick during my first pregnancy when the morning sickness caused to me to collapse at work. There wasn't much I could do about it, and my doctor gave me a sick note.

Please just don't understand how debilitating morning sickness can be.

I have known women who like you have had horrendous morning sickness..congrats btw.

Does your manager know you are pregnant and are they a man oir woman and what arena do you work in? Sporry but all that DOES make a difference. My friend who was a social worker- her manager was lovely- good job cos she ended up being hospitalised, but I had a friend who worked for ...something else, and they were awful about it...

If your boss is being funny get a sick note until you're better. I had hyperemesis and was off sick for 7 months. I tried going back and was so sick I passed out and hit my head on the loo and was taken off to hospital in an ambulance.

I work in a call centre on the phones- at one point i considered putting a customer on hold whilst i ran to toilet manager is a single childless man. And i was given the strong impression that it is unacceptable to leave work for 'just morning sickness' (what a misleading name that is!)

I was off sick for 14 weeks, and then only went back on reduced hours until I finished to go on leave/maternity leave at 30 weeks due to horrific sickness and total exhaustion. It was all the more frustrating because I had worked until 37 weeks with DD without any problems!

My line manager was fine about it, my boss wasn't! (Both childless females incidentally). However, I had a doctors note and there was nothing that they could do about it.

I would suggest that you speak to your GP and if they offer to sign you off, take it!

Congratulations by the way!

I think your boss is being totally unreasonable and agree it would be good to get sick note from GP.

Do you have a good HR department might be worth gettin advice from them and letting them know how your boss is behaving.

Good Luck

Never let anyone underestimate how bad you feel due to morning sickness.

If you feel too sick to work - don't work.

Time off work sick due to pregnancy related issues has to be treated differently by law. You can not be disciplined or sacked for time off due to pregnancy related illness. Also you can not be discriminated against at work becasue of pregnancy.

Make sure your manager knows you are pregnant (preferably in writing) and if they give you hard time about being off work for morning sickness or anything related to your pregnancy, talk to HR.
