How the hell can I get it off? I have tried soap, cold water etc.

My hands have swollen now and its actually quite painful sometimes.

I really dont want it cut off. Im 38+2 - Should I just put up with it or is there some magic way to move it??

The place I went to had this device which looked kind of like pincers, I suppose. One arm of it was a shallow trough which they slid under my ring. The other arm was a circular blade which had a handle like a whisk IYSWIM. The man put the blade down on the ring then turned it gently till it severed the ring and the balde rested in the trough.

I found this; might have some other ideas to try (haven't read it, need to go to bed )

Hi,

Don't know if I'm too late or not but just read through this and realised that nobody suggested baby oil. My mum's hands swell due to arthritis and baby oil seems to work really well. I think cause it's so watery, it leaks under the ring easier than the likes of Vaseline or hand cream...

Good luck!

Poledra is right about the gadget, get it cut at a jewellers and it will be cut in a neat line that should be easy to solder bsck together. We would charge about £25 where I work to repair it,(depending on ring).

Thanks all, I still havent budged it.

I will try dental floss and baby oil tonight. Failing that I will be phoning around jewellers tomorrow.

Thanks again

What colour is your finger?

mama2moo · 19/01/2010 12:31

Its the same as the others. I must admit in the mornings it is red but once my hand has settled its ok.

I have mw this afternoon so Im going to mention it to her and see what she says. I think she will tell me to get it cut off

I wish I had taken it off months ago when I thought about it but my hands were fine then. A friend of my sisters was like this and she tried something with string that worked - I guess its the same as the dental floss in that link.

Definitely get it looked at and have it taken off tomorrow.

ninedragons · 19/01/2010 12:36

Try a very liberal squirt of Windex or WD40 all over your finger.

Bramshott · 19/01/2010 12:43

I did cold water, then lots of soap, then tugged mine off with my teeth ! Took a bit of skin with it, but was such a relief to have it off!

mama2moo · 19/01/2010 21:34

I GOT IT OFF!!!!!

In the shower, loads of tea tree oil conditioner and not thinking about it (weird but it worked)!

Thank you everyone. I was dreading having it cut off

Now I must put it somewhere safe and where I will remember it!!

Woo hoo!!

Woo Hoo!!

I was really worried about an update saying your finger had dropped off or something, it's so scary when it is properly stuck.

Poledra · 19/01/2010 22:46

Great!! Glad it came off in one piece

mama2moo · 20/01/2010 08:04

I was getting worried! My finger is quite sore now and I still have the red indent from where it was!

Thank goodness it is off.
