Are sweeps really horrible. I really want to go naturally as friends say they are not very nice. Any comments and experiences?

Not horrible as such, uncomfortable and made me scoot up the bed slightly and I was a bit sore afterwards and bled slightly. Oh, and a bit of backache too but DD was in my arms 15 hours later

I was hesitant too as Id made the mistake of reading horror stories about other people's and also wanted to go naturally but really wanted to avoid induction too.

I had a sweep yesterday (first pregnancy and first sweep), and also made the mistake of freaking myself out by reading other peoples horror stories!

It was not exactly something I enjoyed, but didn't really hurt. I found it less uncomfortable than a smear because it was just a finger rather than that metal thingy they use for smears.

Afterwards it was a bit tender and I had a bit of spotting, but it really wasn't that bad, honest! It was uncomfortable and a bit embarrassing rather than painful

Just waiting to see if it worked now!

Good luck!

mine wasn't very nice at all
it was quite painful, and fairly unpleasant.

A walk in the park compared to giving birth ime! Similar to internal exam during labour. If you are keen to get started I would give it a try.

Not something to enjoy but bearable if someone holds your hand. My DS3 arrived 15 hours after mine, too!

rubyslippers · 15/01/2010 17:56

mine was brutal but that it why it was effective

was MUCH worse than a smear IMO

DD was born 9 hours later though

I had a couple of sweeps trying to induce DS who's now two weeks. To be honest I was dreading them as I am extremely nervous about anything to do with examinations down there.

They weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Yes they were uncomfortable. I hurt a bit afterwards and I bled a little too. However I was expecting some sort of horror show and they really weren't like that.

If you are really uncomfortable about having one done then I think that a lot of hospitals will offer you gas and air to relax you a little and take the edge off.

Mine were fine, they really were not that uncomfortable, and they were effective too!
