to be honest hun ..if you have had it all day its too late to take those tabs anyway ,,as during a migrane your stomach shuts down so the tabs wouldnt work

and as much as i love talking to you you really should get off here.its not doing you any favours staring at the screen

starlover · 05/07/2005 14:03

i took it. had the worst migraine and sent DP to pharmacy and they said it was fine.
checked with GP the next day and he said it was ok too..

almostanangel · 05/07/2005 14:55

oh.........maybe thats the best bet then ask gp for future migranes

18mumtobe · 05/07/2005 21:44

my pharmacy also said it was fine to take during pg. i suffered very badly with migranes late in pregnancy and at one stage i was taking them everyday sometimes more than once. it never done any harm as i had a lovely little boy 4 wks ago now and he's perfect. so i'd go ahead and take them it'll be fine.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 05/07/2005 21:46

thanks guys, thats re-assuring to know for the next attack! 2 days of hell followed by feeling fine today! Ended up with Kool and Soothe migraine sheet on my head most of last night.

Will send DH to chemist tomorrow so they are in the house!

i found the kool and soothe things a good help too. hope your feeling better still, and hopefully you don't suffer with them as i did coz its not nice. take care xxx

Twiga · 06/07/2005 15:36

Was told not to take migraleve when pg due to the codiene content within the pills (dh is a doc). I think IIRC that "Forhead" is ok to use - it's one of those stick type things you rub on. Not sure how far on you are but if it's any comfort I had a couple of very bad migrains early on in my pg and have not had one since (now 32 wks) think the change of hormone balance had kept them at bay. Hope you're feeling better today, lol x

sweetkitty · 06/07/2005 15:57

I took them twice during last pregnancy - I was at my wits end in agony. My doc said twice was ok.

Do they have codeine in them? I thoguth it was super strength paracetamol and an anti emetic in the pink pills??

Twiga · 06/07/2005 19:22

Sweetkitty, Pink tabs contain: Paracetamol, Codeine phosphate and Bucliszine hydrochloride (think this is the anti emetic), Yellow tabs contain:Paracetamol and Codeine phosphate.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/07/2005 19:24

im doing fine still - hoorah. 24+5 here so not sure why i had them so bad..... hoping it was a one off!

when i was little i used to suffer really badly from migraines. often started when i was at school and medcation came too late (would usually sick it all back up again)....

i found that taking some paracetamol and going to bed in a DARK room was the most help tbh.
obviously the migraleve helps even more... but if you can't get them then darkened room, perhaps with a cool flannel over your forehead/eyes comes a close second!

Resurrecting a 'zombie' thread here as I've recently spent several hours being passed around nhs direct and out of hours on the migraine/ migraleve question. At 11 weeks I was told a clear no because of the codeine.

EggyM · 11/01/2013 08:06

Hey Lozster,

Just thought I would say I feel your pain. Also 11 weeks and have just called in sick from work as have been up all night with an almighty migraine.

I suffer from regular migraines and am usually prescribed triptan tablets which I can't take during pregnancy so have to suffer through now. I'm gutted as so many people told me my migraines might go away during pregnancy but no such luck I'm getting them as often as I always did.

I echo what people above have said -the forehead sticks are good and so are the cool and soothe patches. The don't make the migraine go away at all but they help you deal with it a little better.

I don't understand why Migraleve can't be taken - the codeine is the same strength of that as cocodamol (8/500) so if you take the yellow ones, its the same pill surely?

BionicEmu · 11/01/2013 09:35

That's strange everyone gets told no because of the codeine. I've been taking 60mg of dihydrocodeine 4 times a day throughout my pregnancy to try & cope with severe back pain. I've had the agreement of my.GP, pain management consultant and obstetrician. They all said the only danger is the possibility of the baby suffering withdrawal from it when they're born, so the aim was to reduce the dose from 36 weeks.

I can't see why you couldn't take the odd dose of 16mg of codeine!
