Just thought I'd share with you that John Lewis sell it for £8.42, which is a really good price [http://www.johnlewis.com/230446498/Product.aspx?SearchTerm=RecentlyViewedList]. Its out of stock online at the mo but was in stock on Tuesday.

it only works afterwards once you've got stretchmarks and want to get shot of them though!

BikeRunSnowflake · 14/01/2010 21:48

I used it throughout PG (have used it for years for other stuff) and got no stretch marks. Make of that what you will. I have no idea if BioOil was the reason I didn't get any stretch marks. I have also used it to keep my CS scar supple, and it has also helped fade it.

blushes · 14/01/2010 21:50

I've used it religiously throughout this pregnancy and had no stretch marks... until around 36 weeks.

Now have got them on my tummy, hips and boobs. They're not horrendous so perhaps the Bio Oil helped somewhat... but I am slightly rueing the £30 odd I've shelled out in the last few months...

whatsthetimemrwolf · 14/01/2010 21:55

I've used it throughout my 3 pregnancies and so far don't have 1 stretch mark!

you really can save your money - it doesn't stop you getting stretchmarks. they used to claim it did (better not still be claiming that!) but couldn't prove it, essentially as it wasn't true. they can, I believe, prove a link to better appearance scar tissue/stretchmark fading though so save up the pennies and use it afterwards instead

I didn't use anything, had 3 kids, no stretch marks - it's genetic, nothing you can do either way really

blushes · 14/01/2010 21:57

Am very jealous mrwolf. Mine are really getting me down...

sanfairyann · 14/01/2010 21:59

i do use it btw, not a hate campaign against the product itself . it's good for healing burns. I also add a drop or two to my moisturiser sometimes

Mistymoo · 14/01/2010 22:00

I tried it but I seem to be allergic to it.

feedthegoat · 14/01/2010 22:03

Does it work on scars then? I want some for my nose as I think the glue going to come off my cut nose shortly and Dr did say it might scar.

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/01/2010 22:04

I used it and I got no stretch marks at all. My mum has loads so I assumed I was wasting my time. I was also 41 so thought my saggy, baggy old body would be a nightmare afterwards. I honestly have no stretch marks from being pregnant (got a load on my thighs from having lost weight though!). I really recommend it but, of course, everyone is different.

Beanigan · 14/01/2010 22:06

I always believed stretch marks are more to do with age and genetics than anything else.... (I may be wrong!)

My theory was that I have bugger all elasticity in my skin being late 30's and my mother didn't get any so am hoping I won't get any this time (am 35.5 weeks) - I didn't get any with my 1st pregnancy. I do sometimes use Almond oil (£2.50 for a bit bottle) when my skin feels a bit dry and tight but maybe once a week? My mother used to use olive oil.

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/01/2010 22:18

I think any oil probably works really? I've heard of using Olive Oil and that that works too.

whatsthetimemrwolf · 14/01/2010 22:27

blushes no stretch marks but legs are now covered in varicose veins . I know which I'd prefer!

Even if it doesn't prevent stretch marks and they are genetic, I find it helps that horrible stretchy, tight feeling I get on my stomach. BTW I've only just bought my second bottle and am 35 weeks pregnant.

I have about three stretch marks on each side, in exactly the same place as my mum! I'm a believer in them being genetic.

blushes · 14/01/2010 22:30

Oh the joys of pregnancy!

I have to say, Bio Oil does make my skin feel nice. And I like the smell. No doubt I'll continue to slap it on post-partum in the hope that it will reduce the appearance of the stretch marks I do have.

MamaLazarou · 15/01/2010 08:05

I have been using it twice a day since the day I got the positive test. I'd presumed that I'd get loads of stretch marks, as my sister has really awful ones, but I'm not nearly 39 wks and only have a few very small ones (I won't tell my sister this, she'll fume).

I find, however, that it doesn't feel very moisturising, especially when the belly starts getting really huge and the skin starts feeling stretched: the best thing for this, I have found, is Neal's Yard 'Mothers Balm' massaged in gently for about 10 minutes at bedtime. It makes the skin on my bump feel lovely and smooth.

MamaLazarou · 15/01/2010 08:06

Sorry, should read "I'm NOW nearly 39 wks".

girlsyearapart · 15/01/2010 08:24

I used it all the way through my 1st pregnancy. Got evil horrible stretch marks at about 38 weeks. My mum and sister don't have a single one and I'm the one with the olive easy-tan skin. My mum seems to think it's my own fault

didn't get any new ones with dd2.

I think if you're gonna get em you're gonna get em.

wasabipeanut · 15/01/2010 08:58

I used it with pg number 1 and remained stretchmark free until 38 weeks! I've used it this time too and got a few tiny ones but nothing severe. I never expected it to stop stretchmarks - agree they are genetic, but I do think it might lessen the severity and it does fade them well too.

I love the smell.

Karrierbag · 15/01/2010 12:18

Palmers cocoa butter stretch mark cream! Absolutely fabulous :D Will use Bio-Oil after babe is born if I have any stretch marks but don't have a single one at the moment (31+5) and hoping it stays that way!! xx
