Or is it just me?

Im 37 weeks pg now and have been having what I think must be bad bh at night since Thursday. The baby has dropped right down and is 3/5ths engaged. This is dc2.

We never get snow here but still have loads on the ground from Tuesday and a lot of ice. We are forecast a lot more tonight/tomorrow and Monday. It would appear that my town doesnt have any grit as they havent done anything.

Dp couldnt move our car on Wednesday morning to get to work and now I am starting to panic a bit.

Please tell me to shut up and that it will be fine

No I am 35+3 and worried. Hosp appt on Monday and really want to go as want to now if baby engaged etc.

AKMD · 09/01/2010 12:42

The roads are quite clear around here but if there is a serious problem or you go into labour, an ambulance will be able to get to you if you can't get to them.

MamaLazarou · 09/01/2010 12:46

No, it's not just you - we have deep snow in our area and I'm terrified. I'm 38wks tomorrow.

My MW told me that, during the last snowy spell, all home births were cancelled, so I guess if my labour started now, I'd have to go into hospital to have the baby. The idea of it appals and terrifies me: I had a major crying fit yesterday - DH rang me in the middle of it and I was in such a state he came home from work to look after me. Then I felt terribly guilty all evening.

I'm just hoping and praying that the baby doesn't come early, and that by the time he arrives, the snow has melted so I can have the baby at home as planned.

My next MW appt is on Thursday, and I am tempted to throw myself at her feet and beg her to attend my birth at home regardless (she lives two streets away and we have all the home birth equipment at our house except Entonox).

Ohwhatacrapmasfear · 09/01/2010 12:49

I'm 39+2 and our local roads have about 3 inches of snow on. Another load of snow is expected today and tomorrow (am in a village in East Anglia). Am starting to get a bit anxious about it tbh. I've been reading up on emergency births and home births but according to DP it will all be fine - you just need lots of towels and hot water .

I suppose it will be fine though, this is my first baby so am expecting to go over my due date......hopefully. This time last week I was willing him/her out, now I'm telling him/her to stay put put where it's nice and warm .

stinkypinky · 09/01/2010 12:50

Apparently babies are coming early due to mummies worrying, so try not to. I am 26 weeks so have a long way to go, but it has still crossed my mind.

The emergency services would do everything they could to get to you - much safer than trying to get there yourselves. Make sure you have all phone numbers available - a variety as 999 struggled last night apparently.

mama2moo · 09/01/2010 12:51

Thank God its not just me!!

I was talking to DP about it just now and he said if the worst happened they would have to get an ambulance here!! Yep, thanks for that now even more worried.

Our bigger roads arent too bad in the day but trying to get out of our little estate is a nightmare. I hate to think what it would be like in the middle of the night.

Mamalazarou - At least your mw is 2 streets away. Im sure if she was home and you needed her she would be there.

I'm worried too! I'm 40+5 with dc1 and watching the weather very carefully. I'm more worried about the ice than the snow now I think. At least it takes my mind off worrying about labour for a bit!

Guess we have to try and stay positive - I think the main roads are better now but I can't blame my little one for wanting to stay snug for a bit longer. The waiting game isn't easy is it?

It will all be fine and in the next few weeks we will all be cuddling our new borns!

carrielou2007 · 09/01/2010 14:14

Same here!! I'm 40+2 and managed to get out in the car for the first time since weds yesterday, roads like sheet ice . My hospital is about 40 mins away and up the steepest hill you've ever seen. The Oncology unit is also at the top of the hill so sure it would be cleared as much as poss.

I changed my car recently and my ex dp has not even driven it yet. I thought it was happening last night and this morning then it tailed off and he started shouting at me how would we get up the hill - worry I know but I did still cry and that I can't help it!!

blondieminx · 09/01/2010 14:17

Me too! 39 weeks here and it's snowing even more as I type in my Essex village. My baby's been fully engaged for nearly 2 weeks but seems to be staying put - sensible child

But we will all be fine I'm sure, I reckon the fear of what might go wrong is probably much worse than actually getting on with things!

Bathsheba · 09/01/2010 14:19

Definately with you all....I'm 38.5 and off in for a section on Wednesday at 39. I'm not sure footed anyway but we have had lying snow and ice where I live since December 22nd (I'm in NE Scotland) and I'm quite reticent to go out.

Driving is fine but my problem is when I have to walk from the car to where I'm going as everywhere is covered in ice on the pavements - my Dh has has to do most of the school drop offs and pick ups this weeka s my DD's school playground is completely iced over. I'm hoping that by the time I get out of hospital that there has been a considerable thaw.

We are fine to get to the hospital - we are only about 5 mins drive away, the roads are fine and the roads and pavements in the hopsital itself have all been cleared

blondiep14 · 09/01/2010 14:30

I'm due with DC2 today (!) and am really worried.
I think getting to the hospital may be a bit dangerous but think we'll get there ok, usually it's 5 mins drive away so it will just be a longer and dodgier drive, but what I really worry about is DS and who will look after him.
The IL's are down to look after him but the roads between them and us are becoming less passable every hour here .
It looks like if they can, they may have to come over later and stay - just in case. Not sure how long that will be manageable for tho...

BabyGiraffes · 09/01/2010 14:46

I'm wondering whether to ask to be induced on a certain day. At least that way I know that myself, midwives, doctors, my dh and dd are all in the right place!

mama2moo · 09/01/2010 17:54

We are due more snow tonight and then on and off until Thursday.

I think Im more worried about getting dd to my parents because their roads are worse then ours.

I am also worried that there wont be many midwives once I get there.

I need to stop worrying!! I have pre warned dp that he may need to deliver it if it happens in the middle of this weather!! Maybe I will bookmark some good Youtube videos that will show him what to do just in case.

At least those of you over due are now wanting your babies to stay put

Bathsheba good luck for Wednesday. Can your dh drop you as close to the door as he can? They should have gritted around hospital entrances - You would hope so anyway.
