28weeks - FH was 30cm
31+4 - FH was 35cm

Went for my growth scan yesturday and baby was a right size, head circumfurance was fine, fluid levels were fine, but she has a "massive tummy" as the sonographer told me. Its on the 90th percentile on the graph and now have been told i have to have her at the city hospital 15miles away rather than my local birthing centre 2 mins up the road.

Also Been feeling alot fewer movements compared to usual. Been told i have a front placenta and that this can mask the kicks. Placenta is normal size apparently too.

So there sending me for a GTT on tuesdays. But if i have signs of GD would this not show up in my urine samples? Or wouldnt i know? Im always tired, thirsty and need to pee all the time, but thats pregnancy for you isnt it?

Feeling like a baby mummy already like its my fault she has a "massive tummy" as ive maybe have over induldged in naughty food.

Anyone else been through this?

They also said she is around 5lbs but that this isnt accurate.

I was told this when I was expecting my ds who is now 3. I was tested for GD but results came back negative. H did have a big appetite though,

rainbowdays · 08/01/2010 20:59

With dc3 my scans all showed huge tummy on 90th+ centile, but in the end when he was born he was chubby, but not a huge tummy like expected. The midwife who delivered dc3 commented on how fat the umbilical cord was, and that I must have been feeding baby very well, I prefer to think of it that way! Anyway, he is now perfect 20month old, so did no harm to him.

I would question why you have to change hospitals for birth if you don't have GD? But otherwise, don't worry about it!

I was told dd2 had an enormous tummy, too. I tested negative for GD, and was comforted by the sonographer's observation that at least the big bit was squashy! Rather that than a big head...

She came out a big chubster, but no problems.

GoldenSnitch · 08/01/2010 21:17

They told me at my 36 weeks scan (had low lying anterior placenta so had to have a late one) that my DD had a massive tummy - off the scale big - and would be somewhere around 10lbs! Sonographer also said she had very short Femurs in her legs.

She was born by ELCS at 38+4 weighing 7lbs 1oz with a perfectly normal little tum and perfectly normal little legs.

I think a lot of the time it is just guesswork and they get it wrong. Don't worry too much.

DD had a huge tummy on her 20 week scan - it was above the 97th percentile and all her other measurements were on 50th. She's now 12 months and still has a big tummy in comparison to the rest of her, but doesn't cause any problems and no one has ever mentioned it as an issue. They didn't say I couldn't use the birthing centre because of it (couldn't go there in the end for other reasons).

I'm 18 weeks pregnant at the moment and baby seemed to have a big tummy at 12 week scan, so i think we're destined for another one the same shape!

shoulditakethisjob · 08/01/2010 21:31

GOldensnitch do you mind if I ask if the ELCS was because of her suspected size or another reason?

GoldenSnitch · 09/01/2010 09:21

I requested the ELCS very early in my pregnancy because of a traumatic birth with my first child which ended in an EMCS.

Not sure if they would have suggested a section after the results or not as I was already being booked for one. They certainly stopped pushing me towards a VBAC though.

I wouldn't trust the actions of MK General though - they're not the worst maternity unit in the UK for nothing!!

Tillyscoutsmum · 09/01/2010 09:32

Both dd and ds had big tummies on their scans. I did not have GD and didn't overeat - I barely ate at all with dd because of nausea all the way through pregnancy and gained less than 2 stone in both pregnancies.

DD was 9lb 12oz and DS was 10lb 5 oz though

You have done nothing wrong Plenty of time for parental guilt once they're out

mama2moo · 09/01/2010 11:10

With dd we had a scan at 34 weeks (to check where my placenta was not size) and the sonographer told us that the baby looked big and had a big tummy.

Dd was born at 39+6 and was 7lb 1oz.

Im not sure how accurate scans are at guessing the babies size.

Have your fundal height measurements been ok?

jellybean86 · 09/01/2010 11:34

Thanks everyone :-)

mama2moo, yeah my fundal height has been larger than usual. last was i was measuring 35cm at 31+4
