Pain in groin area - should I be concerned?

Hi,

Wanted to get some advice, this is my first and I am 14 weeks.

For several weeks I have been getting sharp pains in groin, cervix area. It is not really really painful but does make ,e go 'ooh' sometimes. Today I have a pain to the left side of groin around the very top of my leg from front to back.

I have read a bit about SPD but think I am too early for that. I also have servere abnormal cells in cervix which need treatment after I have given birth so bit worried about that too.

Are there normal pregnancy pains/niggles?

Thanks for listening.

With my first pregnancy, my SPD started at 17 weeks. I was on holiday and had been walking around a lot which I think triggered it early.

There are some normal pains like the round ligament pains which is kind of on the side, between the hip and the groin.

Hippopo, I have had these too, from about 3/4 weeks onwards (now 16 weeks)

I think they are just ligaments stretching, but if I stand up too quickly they do make me gasp a bit!

I have this (and have had since 4 weeks) and now at 16 weeks they seem to have subsided a bit, although now replaced with hip clicking!

I never had it with DS, but post pregnancy used to get it mid cycle (I guess around ovulation?) so have put it down to hormones. Perhaps now my hormones have 'settled', the pain has eased?

Anyway, my midwife has booked me for physio tomorrow so will let you know what they say!

So sorry to tell you this, but its not too early for SPD. Mine started at 14 weeks this time (I didn't have it at all with DS). If the pain continues then see your doctor and get a referall to physio. Depending on where you live this may take a bit of a fight!

I started having this at about 8 weeks.. im now 26 weeks and its still there but worse! Ive asked the midwife about it a couple of times and she said i can try physio as it could be SPD but i dont see the point now as she also said it takes about 6 weeks!! to get an appointment so id only have a couple of months left by then. I just walk around slowly like a little old lady and it doesnt hurt so bad hehe!

I've had the same thing intermittently throughout the pregnancy starting from the second trimester. It isn't necessarily SPD, but ligaments in your pelvis stretching.

could be round ligament pain (limagents around the womb stretching) or SPD. Sometimes the round ligament pain makes me stop in my tracks.

catbus · 06/01/2010 16:37

SPD can start any time sadly! Previous 3 pregnancies, the last one kicked in just before 8 weeks. I have just found out I am 4 weeks with no.4, and it feels like I have been kicked in the bits already. So am trying to keep knees together, not hurdling stairgates etc. You can be referred usually fast, by your mw, for physio, who also prvide lovely support belts. Which are great until you want to sit down!

I have pain in the same area, particularly when walking. I've seen osteopath twice and she says my hips are out of line, my left side is lower than my right so my lower back & hips have twisted to compensate. I'm quite lucky as the pain is bareable & I only have 9 weeks to go but I recommend seeing an osteopath if you can. Unfortunately they don't come cheap.....

Thanks everyone. I will see how I go over the weekend and then think about physio or similar. I have pregnancy yoga tomorrow morning maybe that could help too.
