Can anyone recommend a book that I can read with my 2 year old ds to help him get the idea that I'm going to have a baby?

house inside

My DD loved this when i was pregnant with DS.

poorbuthappy · 04/01/2010 13:01

seconded...dd1 still loves it now even though this house is derelict!

Lionstar · 04/01/2010 13:04

We had this and this as the follow on. No words, but the pictures are lovely and you just make up the story to suit.

DD also loves 'house inside my mummy' and we still read it even though DS is 3 months now!

I third this one but it makes me cry ! ( in a good way!). I also got a couple of Annie Kubler books - waiting for baby and my new baby which my DS likes ( he is just coming up to 2). I thought these were also good as they have pictures of breastfeeding in too.

house inside. made me want to hurl but DS LOVES it.

and My New Baby (link in previous post) and the baby's catalogue by the ahlbergs for when the sibling is actually here.

very realistic and warm story just in pictures
a lot of humour and gives a fairly good expectation of what it will actually be like (eg picture of mum asleep on sofa - daddy bodging a meal together
another picture- the new baby is screaming and the toddler is looking alarmed - but the last picture shows the baby asleep and the parents reading the toddler a story)

sorry

My New Baby

My husband bought the Usborne New Baby Sticker Book for my daughter when we went on holiday this summer. Who knows why, as I wasn't pregnant or even considering being pregnant at the time! But it was a good book, detailing how the mother was expecting a baby and went to hospital, and came home with the new baby.

I would reckon it would be a good book for your child to keep them entertained while you are 'otherwise occupied.'

The baby catalogue is superb! We have it anyway, but has lots of pictures with babies etc. Plus is the only book I have seen with mummy breastfeeding baby.

House inside my mummy as many others have said is also superb! I actually think it is very cleverly done - and DS loves it, until we get to the last page where mummy is hold the baby. At which point we get firm 'no'. Does not bode well methinks.

house inside my mummy

IMO House inside my mummy is only really Ok for older kids (2 1/2 plus at least and only then if they have good language skills), as the pictures don't explain the words at all. I really didn't like it.

Loved the Baby Catalogue. Also Zaza's baby brother, although some people don't like it.

mumbot · 04/01/2010 14:26

'Za Za's baby brother' is wonderful, especially the part about mummy needing rest and cups of tea when the baby is born

mitfordsisters · 04/01/2010 14:27

Ooh sticker book - great idea - thanks pandora. We have the Baby Catalogue which DS enjoys already - especially the page called 'Accidents' - lots of 'oh dear oh dear' from ds. Will have a look at house inside my mummy and the others - thanks all
