Varicose veins in pregnancy

Hi, I'm 34 weeks pregnant with DC 3 and varicose veins have suddenly appeared on my legs . My legs are aching so I'm struggling to sleep but I'm more concerned that the varicose veins won't go after pregnancy and I'll never be able to wear a skirt/dress again (vain I know. I've never had a single stretch mark but would gladly accept a stomach covered with stetch marks over legs with varicose veins)!

I've never suffered from them before and have started wearing flight socks for support and trying to elevate my legs when I sit down. Is there anything else I can do to help?

Not much else you can do but I'd mention it to your gp. Some areas - and some gps - will offer nhs ops on varicose veins if causing aching and discomfort.

Gps will refer, not do teh op!

Hi

Im 36wks with 3rd DC, and if its any consolation I have bulging varicose veins on my legs as i did with previous pregnancies and they disappeared almost straight away after birth.
Also to make you feel a bit more better i have varicose vein on my labia (sorry TMI) and it is HUGE and extremely uncomfortable but again it will go staight after birth like it did before.

Hi, yummy - definitely is some consolation that your veins went after your previous births. Very strange at vv in labia! Good luck with birth.

I saw my midwife yesterday and she told me that the large vv's I have may go away/fade after birth but the smaller spider veins I have (which cover half my legs) won't. Am gutted! For anyone else reading this who has them, apparently support socks can make them worse as they can cut off your blood supply and GP's can prescribe tights.

poinsetty - thanks, will see my GP after the birth.
