Has anyone tried natal hypnotherapy? It seems to be a much cheaper version of Hypnobirthing and I'm thinking of using my 'Health in Pregnancy' grant to sign up for a 2 day course. The reviews seem great but they are on the company's website so I wondered if there were any unbiased views out there??

I bought the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs (second hand and cheap from Ebay - not £40 for a set from official website). I'm 35 weeks pregnant so too early to say what help they will be at the birth but definately good for helping me relax and sleep, which makes them worth it already in my opinion!

I have posted a thread about this and there have been various other ones recently too. I bought the Natal Hypnotherapy CD and I think it is helping me to feel calmer about the impending birth. When I posted people seemed to think that both types were very helpful.

Hi Grizzer, I used this last birth. I had a very calm home birth. I was very relaxed and didn't really find it painful enough to vocalise it until 20 minutes before my ds was born (involuntary as I'd not been pushing!). Somehow the techniques helped me to marginalise the pain and I only took Arnica in water to aid with recovery.
I was so calm and quiet that the midwives didn't get to me in time- but DS 3 was born very calmly into the birth pool and we sat and cuddled there until they arrived.

I'm definitely using it again this time!!

I am a Midwife and I used Natal Hypnotherapy for both my previous homebirths and to conceive no3 - edd 15/07/10 - it definately is worthwhile!!!!

It helps you to stay in tune with your body and focus inwards, rather than worry about whatever else is going on around you, and helps you stay calm, confident and relaxed.

The CD's are geneeral for everyone, so are definately helpful, but doing the workshops brings everything together and is also really good for the birth partners, encourages them to be more involved, helps them to understand more about what is going on and how best to support you, and in many ways that is what is so invaluable about the workshops - the individualised focus and the role of birth partners in helping you to acheive your goal.

It is absolutely what the HIPS grant was designed for and I definately recommend it!

I'm 34+6 with my first, I got the 4cd set and have done the relaxation in pregnancy & birth preparation ones so far. It definitely relaxes me and does force me to take time for myself which is good. Wish they had a class near me but there aren't any.

Thanks everyone,
I went to the first of 2 workshops on Sunday & found it really good, especially because DH has become much more positive about it now & it has given him something to focus on during the birth. I think he was a bit worried he wouldn't know what to do.
I'm still nervous about the birth but my confidence is growing with each listen of the CD
