Was sat down earlier and whn i got up noticed there was a wet patch on my pjs and damp on dressing gown. Sounds stupid but had been sat on dd bed and she had been playing babies so thought maybe had sat on a wipe or something. Now i am not so sure as pjs were wetter than dressing gown. I could ring the hospital but it is a 30 min drive away on country roads that are currently covered in snow or do you think it would be ok to leave to morning?

I am 36 weeks and only got out of hospital yesterday, had been kept in overnight as there was protein in my urine and had abdominal pain, i had pre-eclampsia with dd so they had kept me in as precaution, but let me home yesterday as protein had gone.

Does this sound like some leaking water? surely i would have known?

Just give the hosp a call they will have a chat and call you in if you really need to.Don't leave it you will only worry all night .

GothDetective · 02/01/2010 20:45

But a pad on, if its your waters then you are likely to carry on leaking.

ib · 02/01/2010 20:47

I had waters leaking which only happened when I had been lying down for a while - the leak was only a trickle so I only noticed it if I was in a position for it to accumulate iyswim.

However, labour did not start until days later - certainly there was no need to rush into hospital or anything like that.

pookabelle · 02/01/2010 20:48

I had similar and went to hospital where they tested my pad to see if it was my waters or not. It wasn't and I was sent home again. Best to check although I was convinced my waters had begun to leak.

onepieceoflollipop · 02/01/2010 20:48

Ring the ward to ask for further advice.

I had the experience of my waters leaking slowly (so put a pad on as someone else suggested). It wasn't like a big gush with the waters breaking, apparently for some women they have some seeping but the baby's head prevents the water gushing out.

Amapoleon · 02/01/2010 20:50

When this happened to me, I called the hosp and hey told me to put a pad on and come in if it got worse. It didnt get worse over night, it just trickled. I went in the next morning as requested and they examined the pad. I was given 24 hours for my waters to break and unfortunately they didn't so I was induced as I also had high blood pressure etc.

Hope I haven't scared you. Good luck and please phone

When you say a pad do you mean a normal period pad or a maternity pad? Think i will put one of those on tonight and ring in the morning as we have a day unit at our local hospital so could just go there tomorrow instead of a 30 min journey x

a normal sanitary towel, save your maternity pads for later 'cos you'll need them!

PotPourri · 02/01/2010 21:04

Don't think there is any need to rush into hospital. But as others said, put on a pad. I had this too with one of my pregnancies - rushed to hospital but it wasn't waters. I was then induced 2 weeks later!! Pooka - did they tell you what it was? They didn't tell me and I have been wondering ever since. It didn't smell of wee, so I am pretty sure it wasn't that...

Amapoleon · 02/01/2010 21:05

mine was something to do with hind waters and fore waters but I can't remember now, so not very helpful

colie · 02/01/2010 21:12

I would leave it for tonight and definately ring the hospital in the morning.

I thought I felt damper! than usual at 39 weeks. Certainly not enough to wear a pad. Went to hospital next day (only because a couple of friends were quite insistent when I told them). Hospital and myself didn't think it was my waters but doctor sent me for a scan to be on safe side. Scan showed there was less fluid than there should have been. Had to go back next day to be induced.

If it is your waters they won't leave you longer than 24 hours without inducing labour, incase of infection.,

Hope it is nothing but you best go and get it checked.

pandora69 · 02/01/2010 21:16

I had a hind water leak at 36 weeks. I went to the midwife unit, where they told me I had most likely wet myself. I can assure you, I hadn't!

I would still go in and be checked anyway. There are various reasons you could be leaving a damp patch, some of them need attention and others are nothing to worry about. Worth knowing which you have.

Beanigan · 02/01/2010 21:19

What a coincidence!! I have just, myself, come down from showing my DH my PJ bottoms as they were slightly damp. I've just put some coloured knickers on to see if it's just discharge or more watery than that. I'm 33 weeks but have a growth scan on Thursday as measuring 28 weeks (only grown 1 week in fundal height in last 3 weeks) - so could be leaking waters.
I think at 36 weeks you could wait until the morning - yes put a pad in and then see how you go. For DC1 my waters went, then 24 hrs passed - nothing happened, then I was called in to be induced.

If more waters do go tonight though, it'll do you no harm to ring the hospital, especially as you may have had possible pre-eclampsia symptoms. Good luck! (I'll keep an eye on my knickers also.....)

MiniMincemeat · 02/01/2010 21:25

As others have said, do call the hospital as they may want to check you out.

liahgenisuptheduff · 02/01/2010 21:26

mummy May Isuggest you use a maternity pad as the period type ones tend to be very absorbant and you wouldn't necessarily notice a leakage. Also you may not notice a smell or colour too much. Amniotic smells slightly sweet and should be strawlike colour or slightly pinky.

Personally if you have been having abdo pains and have protein I would suggest you call tonight, as a UTI, (could be indicated by the protein) can cause early labour.

Good luck.

EdgarAleNPie · 02/01/2010 21:26

woah - good luck. i had a bad cough in the last month and kept on thinking it was my waters (as each sneeze made me wee without any sensation of doing so) but pads showed the difference....

mummytopebs · 02/01/2010 21:28

I have felt a little damp in knickers for the last couple of days so will wear a pad tonight and off to hospital in the morning x

Good luck Beanigan

Any news today? any more leakages? I'm fine, must have just been paranoia on my part.

mummytopebs · 03/01/2010 21:22

Still a bit damp this morning so went to day unit and they examined the womb and said wasent open but midwife thinks plug has come away as she said it was very mucusy us there (sorry bit tmi)

Anyway she said if it still damp tomorrow to go back and they will arrange a scan.

Have had some brownie/yellow discharge this safty so will go back tomorrow. I was very surprised she didnt check my fundal height today, so will be asking them to do that tomorrow and scan. Midwife said if scan shows drop in water they will bring my section forward - yey

Sounds like things are getting ready.

Not long to go now. Hope everythings ok with your scan. I've had enough now and am looking forward to my induction date in 2 weeks but hope to go before then naturally but doubt it with my luck lol!!

I've told dh I want a box of thorntons chocolates when the baby's born lol as I'm really missing chocolate and have had to cut out snacksize ones completely as its pushing my sugars up.

Keep us updated if you can.

All the best
Emma

Beanigan · 04/01/2010 12:12

Oh I'm glad you've been checked over although I'm surprised they haven't scanned you. Measuring the fundal height is very inaccurate anyway so I wouldn't worry about that.

Let us know if you have a scan today and what it shows? how exciting, may all happen early for you!
