Hi Everyone,

I'm 41 weeks today on baby2 and about to loose my mind!! My dd1 was 9lb15 and this baby is measuring bigger so I'm anxious to get things going...I've had three sweeps, acupuncture, RLT, sex, curry and the legs are walked off me all to no avail.

Am booked for induction at Royal Preston on monday if nothing happens before then but would dearly love to go myself. I sent hubby off to get castor oil this morning so am hoping something might happen tonight.

Just wondering if anyone has advice re caster oil? i took 3 desertspoons half hour apart, last dose at 1.30pm should I expect something soon? Also, has anyone any experience of induction at preston..what can I expect....

Thanks for taking the time to reply x

No experience of castor oil, sorry, from what I have read it tastes bleugh! and can dehydrate you badly so remember to keep your fluid intake up if you have already taken it.

If it doesn't start anything then induction's really not that bad. I am probably going to be induced with this one next week if he doesn't arrive on his own. I was induced with DD and all I needed was the gel on my cervix. That didn't hurt at all, started contractions without the need for the oxytocin drip. I then had membranes ruptured artificially which again didn't hurt but got labour moving very quickly. No drip and no complications for me, so although inductions can have some bad press... if a drip is required your contractions are often more painful, which means more women opt for epidurals and more labours progress slowly.. you probably only read about the bad inductions and not about the easy boring ones like mine.

Keep us posted!

Don't take castor oil. It isn't recommended and isn't nice for the baby.

NotanOtter · 31/12/2009 17:12

it might work - just causes diorrhea doesn't it and i always get that in the early stages

if i were you i would try and chill - i lnow it sounds glib and it is horrid being overdue but there is really very likely that the baby will come in the next few days whatever you do

sunburntats · 31/12/2009 17:13

The midwife is an idiot.

Beanigan · 31/12/2009 18:33

I've tried it, don't do it!!

I learnt by my mistake - the stomach cramps were the WORST - you really don't want that on top of labour. Please don't do it and try everything once again - what's RLT? Have you tried nipple suction really hard? A friend of mine swears by this and kick started hers both times.

memorylapse · 01/01/2010 15:28

oh god no..not castor oil!..its an old wives tale..it will just give you the mega runs and make you feel like poo( pardon the pun)..drink lots of water(to rehydrate yourself) and try nipple twiddling instead

My nanny recommended i take it actually....i took 30ml of castor oil to bring my DD labour, had the most terrible diarrohea but DID quickly go straight into labour, she was only three days late to begin with but arrived just five hours after i took the castor oil {3 days....how very impatient i was back then.....}

actually i have a very funny story about not making it home from a walk post castor oil, an ill-thought out piece of clothing and diarrohea in the street at midnight which she always finds hilarious but not sure its what you will want to know given you have taken some....GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR LABOUR - may it be speedy and painless

avoid SWIMMING COSTUMES at all costs....

DollyMessiter · 02/01/2010 16:13

Step away from the castor oil

Hi Ladies

It worked!!!!! Had awful diarrohea for till about nine o clock new years eve night and went to bed completely worn out. I woke at 3.45am with really strong contractions, coming every 7 mins and lasting 45secs!!!! I couldn't believe it. Hubby had to go get my MIL to mind dd1 and by the time we got to hospital at 7 I was 7cm. Baby Alexander was born at 8.30 with the help of the gas and air, weighing an impressive 10lb6. So I'm thrilled with the castor oil, maybe it was a coincidence, but I really don't think labour would have been as positive an experience if I'd been induced....Thanks for all the advice

Congratulations on your baby boy! but as for the castor oil, chances are he would have been born then anyway. You were very overdue, so the odds on your giving birth on any one day after your due date would shorten with every day that went past. So you could have done without the appalling trots and exhaustion, and still had your baby boy the next day.

lazyemma · 08/01/2010 16:41

also, I was induced for my last pregnancy: one pessary, 5 hour textbook labour with just gas and air. Inductions don't have to be a nightmare, and I wouldn't try to avoid one by giving myself the trots.

aaah. thant is wonderful ending. Welcome to the world baby Alexander. Congrats mummy x
