Hi there

I am just a regular mum but I am really interested in the link between diet and possible slight effect it might have on the gender of your babies.

I have 2 DS's and I definitely have a higher intake of carbohydrates in my diet...however this does not explain why all my friends who live in the far east and eat rice 3 times a day can end up with all girls either...so ?

They may be such a tiny link that it makes total nonsense..but I am really interested in hearing what mumsnet mums in the UK have to say about it.

So to all mum's with only daughters, could you give me an idea of what a normal day's diet for you looks like ?

Mainly this

memoo · 30/12/2009 22:12

Hi, not got much time but I have 2 DD's and my diet consists of a lot of carbs like bread and pasta, also a lot of dairy. Don't eat a huge amount of rice and I'm not very good at having my 5 a day.

madrose · 30/12/2009 22:12

lots of carbs, fruit and dairy

Aranea · 30/12/2009 22:12

I don't understand how it could possibly make a difference. Isn't gender determined by the sperm?

mrspnut · 30/12/2009 22:13

There is no link between diet and sex of your child.

The only possible link is between the father and the sex of the sperm he produces.

All females produce an X gamete, males produce X or Y gametes.

Which of these manage to join with the egg determines the sex of the child.

XX = Girl
XY = Boy.

SazzlesOnASled · 30/12/2009 22:15

The only thing i always have which is not on everyones diet is fresh grapefruit for breakfast. DD1 was the first girl born into Dh's family in over 100 years and DD2 the second

Fruitbatlings · 30/12/2009 22:15

hey dungun! It's me fruity from the PCOS thread (I hope you're the same dungun anyway, otherwise ignore me )
Yes, I'd like to know too. I'm convinced it's the PCOS and too much testosterone in or bodies but people with PCOS have girls all the time so I must be wrong
I'm going for a girl next..........somehow

jaquelinehydeThePresents · 30/12/2009 22:16

The gender of the baby is determined by the sperm.

Fruitbatlings · 30/12/2009 22:17

I'm pretty sure the environment of the woman must have something to do with gender. Depending on how acidic/alkaline the woman is, she could kill off the male or female sperm.....? Does that make sense?

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 30/12/2009 22:21

I have PCOS and have 4 dd's and no boys as yet, 2 mc though.

paisleyleaf · 30/12/2009 22:38

I can't get my head around a link between diet and gender.
But have read a bit about the time of intercourse making a difference. In that the male sperms swim faster and don't live so long, while the female swim slower and live longer. So, sex when you ovulate might be more likely to be a boy, and sex just before ovulation - a girl.

Paisley - easy when you have regular cycles I suppose.... I stupidly bought the book based on this method (dr shettles) but it only works if you know exactly when you ovulate

cazzybabs · 30/12/2009 22:44

i did lots of sport and so ate lots of carbs...3 dds...there is no link between diet and gender. I think it is genetic and not alot you can do to determine it.

Fruitbatlings · 30/12/2009 22:45

Does the environment (in the female reproductive system) not have anything to do with gender? ie, killing off male or female sperm depending on acidity(or something)?

sweetkitty · 30/12/2009 22:53

3 DDs here and no4 probably a DD too

Am veggie, lot of carbs, some dairy, lot of veggies and fruit.

Although the sperm does determine the sex, I have read that women can favour one sex or the other, we have come to the conclusion that I boot out the male ones as all my DDs look like me not DP hence I am trying to clone myself

ellokitty · 30/12/2009 23:05

I'm veggie, practically live on pasta and carbs... and have 2 DDs.

havoc · 30/12/2009 23:14

I ate a lot of sandwiches while TTC DD. HTH!!!!

havoc · 30/12/2009 23:16

Not during sex, I hassen to add!

2babesmum · 30/12/2009 23:26

Male sperm swim fast so you should have sex around the time of ovulation only for a boy as the girls tend to swim slower and live longer. So if you had sex say 3 days before ovulation then the chances are the male sperm would have got to the goal but died waiting but the girls who take their time and live longer will be still around.

It does also depend on the alkalinaty inside your body. Cant remember which way around it is tho

Rindercella · 30/12/2009 23:31

Havoc, thank you. You just made me

I am pg with DD2. I eat just about anything and everything. Probably just a little bit too much rubbish. Can't see the link myself.

differentnameforthis · 30/12/2009 23:35

I have a crappy diet. 2 girls.

I don't think that the environment would kill of male or female sperm.

It is pure luck I think, because I conceived on the day I ovulated both times...according to my body, anyway!

Wanderinginawinterwonderland · 30/12/2009 23:44

I have a crap diet too.

I have 1 DD.

I don't think there is any link with food, tbh.

I read somewhere, that if you have 2 of the same sex children by the same partner, you are likely to have that gender again if you were to try for a third as it is likely that that gender sperm is stronger.

minicorrect · 30/12/2009 23:48

I eat loads of carbs and dairy and have a dd. However, the clinic I went through produced lots of girls and we're convinced this was due to late insemination protocol - trigger shot 20+ hours before. I was so certain it was too late to work I nearly didn't bother going in. So timing thing seems more likely...

Rindercella · 30/12/2009 23:49

Yes, I have heard that too Wandering. Although there are of course exceptions - DH has one brother and then three sisters (in that order).
