Do I need a pramsuit/coat for a baby due 2nd March?

Or will it be enough to have thick cardigan and blankets when in pram/car seat?

I didn't bother with a pramsuit because I'd take DS into shops etc and would need to remove layers as they're usually too hot.

DS has a coat and blankets when in the pram. The coat has a hood and is fulluy zipped so can open if it's warm (March will probably have the odd mild day so you don't need anything too thick?)

I didn't really use one all winter with DD born in October. That was partially because we have the lie flat car seat, and it was more comfortable for her to be tucked up with blankets.

Hi there, I'm due in February and asked the same question at my ante-natal class. The midwife said that the best thing to invest in was some good blankets as very little babies prefer the swaddling effect rather than the starfish effect that a snowsuit gives.

We gotthis for Christmas - just a suggestion.

Hadn't thought about a coat though, will have to look into that!

You'll need a coat, I'd say you'll only need a snowsuit if it gets bitterly cold and snows. Otherwise just a coat or a cardigan with nice thick fleecey lining and a little hat and small blankets are fine. I had DD at end of February 2 years ago and only used snowsuit for one freaky weather day when it snowed in April.

these are brilliant although I think that the nomade that Flying reindeer linked to are better because you can lift them out in it.
I had DD in March last year and barely used my wrap because the weather was amazing, really warm. If it's a girl you are having you can have my wrap.

I found that cardigans and hats with lots of blankets were better. Coats are huge on little babies and when you try and strap them in their car seat they look swamped. Also if you are in and out of the car / shops / houses then you would need to keep removing things. With layers you can just take layers off.

If you dont drive and are planning on being outside with the pram a lot then I might think about one.

Thanks ladies

I am loving the look of the 'nomade' flying reindeer looks so cosy!

Also thanks littledawley, but I am having a boy

Just been out to see if I could get a coat in the sales, no luck for newborn/0-3 but did find a lovely one in Debenhams for next winter!

My DD was born mid-march last year, I was very glad I had purchased a snowsuit as it was snowing when I left hospital and was bitterly cold for a good few weeks when we were home.

It was great for long walks in the still pretty wintery weather.
